I guess there was a crisis or an emergency and your signal ut before finishing your sentence?

I was hit with a small meteorite.

The point is that telephones don't have unlimited capacity either. It only seems that way because a limited number of people use the system at one time.

I'm not talking about unlimited capacity, simply sufficient capacity to prevent throttling 90% of the time would be significantly better than what we have now.

Handruin @ 9000 posts, in addition to all the maintenance stuff. Thanks for all your hard work!

I'd rather thank Doug for the quality of some of his posts, particularly the extra miles he's gone to try to help solve VM questions and problems. That and the fact that he looks after the behind-the-scenes drudgery that keeps this place on the air. Cheers, Doug. :salut:

I would love to see the oversold numbers for cell carriers. I bet it is way over the amount that home internet is oversold by and they have to deal with people moving around too.

All I can say is that as a child, I was pushed into a hedge with a ton of spider webs just after all the eggs had hatched. I literally had thousands of very small spiders crawling all over me. Very freaky and not something I would choose to experience again.

I used to keep spiders as pets, including a good supply of tarantulas. If they were handled too frequently the hairs would shed and could be irritating, especially when walking on my face.

Mooner, putting a tarantula on your face is not something you do. Ever. Their bites are poisonous and quite painful. Not something you want to experience, especially near your main nervous system (brain). I don't think you can die from a tarantula bite, unless you are very young or very old and weak, but it will still hurt a lot. Also, their fangs are quite long and very capable to burst an eye ball.

Yeah, I was bitten once when the tarantula thought my finger was a grasshopper. My finger and part of the hand were swollen almost to double size for a week. It was painful for a couple of weeks. :(

So the price of petrol is again on the rise and has breached the $4 per gallon barrier here. Shortly I will also be losing my garage parking privileges at work, and will be sent to an outdoor lot, which costs about $10 per week.

Therefore it is time to upgrade the motorcycle (free parking in the internal garage) :) The GS750E is not cutting the mustard in terms of efficiency with around 35MPG, which I can achieve in my car. Private garage parking is about $7 for a day, so even if I bring the car in one day a week for bad weather I would still be ahead. Once next winter comes I will no doubt have to pay the weekly sum and use the outdoor lot but for now Spring/Summer beckons.

So the choice now is between the 2012 CBR250R Tri-color with ABS:

Or the 2012 CRF250L, which was just recently announced, not yet officially in the US (uses the 250cc engine from the CBR):

The CBR250R should be good for about 75MPG, the CRF250L will no doubt get less due to lack of fairings and knobby tires but 70MPG should be doable. Either should be around the $4K-$4500 mark.

My leaning is towards the dirt bike, more flexibility to go anywhere I need to. Downside is less wind protection but I have bugger all now with the Suzuki so no big adjustment there. I imagine I will get blown around a lot more when passed by a semi on the thruway with a 360lb bike as opposed to my current 550lb one. Any thoughts?

I suspect that the CBR will also give you a better ride on-road, with more damping and less travel. Not sure if it is adjustable as it was on my CBR600F4i, but it made a huge difference.

Of course, taking the CBR offroad would provide a very bad ride, but you weren't going to do that anyway.

Yeah there's little adjustment on the suspension as these are made to a price, in a Thai factory for a global market. I see your point, either would be used on the highway for 95% of the time, I guess the CRF points more towards the utilitarian side, it's the dream of a "Deep Impact" moment where I can outrun the mother of all tsunamis. Presumably in that scenario the wife and kids are already safe on the mountaintop and I just have to strap the dog on my back and ride for the hills myself.

In that scenario you aren't too worried about the condition of the bike afterwards, so you can just ride the CRX to bits anyway.

Besides, only in Hollywood would a 250 be enough to outrun anything but your dog. ;)

"The mother of all tsunami" would likely be caused by an asteroid impact in the ocean or a catastrophic landslide not too far away from your location on the coast. In either way, the wave's speed created by such events would greatly exceed whatever speed you'd be able to reach on a dirt bike. Opt for the road bike ; it won't make any difference if you're hit by the worst Nature can throw you.

OK, in the interests of road safety I will go with the CBR with ABS. And if it fails at tsunami escape my spirit will find it's way to Montréal to haunt you :p

The Knobby tires might be usfull in the snow, or going overland to avoid the tsunomi.

I spent quite a few hours yesterday replacing the water pump in my wife's 2000 Chevy Malibu. The repair was pretty straightforward and didn't cost much (a new lifetime warranty water pump is $20), but it did take a lot of my time and second trip to the store to buy a tool I didn't have and some thread sealant. On the positive side the car no longer sounds like it has a supercharger from the whine of the water pump.

I am omnipresent
My goal for this week is to go to however many McDonald's it takes to get as many Rainbow Dash toys as I possibly can.

I know too many people who would think that Rainbow Dash toys represent a thoughtful gift and also I suspect that saying this here will piss Coug off somehow. :D

Is McDonald unpopular north of the border?
