Because it's unironically entertaining and enjoyable; charming without being treacly. Much like the three seashells, if you give it a chance you'll at least see how it's supposed to work.

I prefer the three blue diamonds.

I'm really more of a Twilight Sparkle (big purple star) fan in general.

Also, Chewy: Girls like pony stuff. Pony stuff has gotten me dates with girls who like pony stuff. Even if you don't understand anything else about the particulars of Pony-fandom, you have to admit that's a valid reason all on its own.

Without the word having a distinctly flavorful nuance to make the point stronger the intended point will otherwise be disrupted or lost by a large percentage of the audience. I guess it all comes down to the goal the writer is trying to achieve. Show off their vocabulary, enhance the point they are trying to make, or a little of both.

That would make for an awkward cell phone without a Bluetooth earpiece or watch. The Galaxy Note is already pretty awkward. I admit I understand the utility though once paired with Bluetooth. Pun intended.
