I mentionned those back in October :
I'm very curious about the price of those : http://www.smartstoragesys.com/products/ulltradimm.aspOf course, it isn't affordable, but if the 400GB model is around 2K$, it would be a very interesting option for server fast storage.I suppose, but am not sure, that you can put standard RAM next to it. Otherwise, I don't know how to use those. Any server still has to have regular RAM to work well, plus flash storage (or mecanical drives) to store the long term data.

I recall posting on Storage Review maybe ten years ago that one day computers would have slots for non-volatile solid-state storage as well as the usual RAM slots. Interesting that we're seeing the start of that concept now with server hardware. In a few years it might be the norm for desktop MBs to have dedicated flash memory slots.

If it's non-volatile I wonder if you could boot from it?? In the BIOS there would be a selection to boot from memory and possibly one of the memory slots could be a dedicated 'boot slot'.
The desktop would be up before your finger got off the power button.
