If true, this is some good news for windows 7. We'll no longer need Apple's bloatware/nagware/ prompting us to install updates all the time when no one ever cares.

No wonder Handy uses those big SATA drives...you work for Balmer don't you? Come on, admit it. Only such a person would call Apple software bloatware, when Winblows is the originator of the term 'bloatware', lol.

Why would any sane person use Winblows 7, a poor copy of Mac OS X from the early 2000's, when they can just as easily get a superior OS in the new release of Snow Leopard (which should still be released even before W7's early expected October date) 10.6?

Spoken like a true believer, sans condoms; worldwide spread of STD's and other viruses...so typical :p.

Merc never uses QT anyways :D

Lame, is that the best you could come up with? I guess you've never used server 2003? Apple software is bloatware. Explain all the crap that gets installed with QuickTime and or iTunes and then you'll have some ground to stand on.

Why would I bother with Snow Leopard when it won't even run a fraction of the software I need or want? That's hardly a superior OS if it doesn't do what I need.

Here you go...Fatty winblows users :D

really old article that Handy must have missed last summer while running a multitude of anti-virus progs, lol. Many features have changed since then, ZFS is there in Snow Leopard, but will be mainly 'visible' on the server edition of 10.6 (which has still only 2, versus bloatware M$'s multi-priced/over-priced versions)

Think Small.
Snow Leopard aims below the bloat to accommodate the coming wave of SSD-based systems. In the latest build, sources say Apple’s own apps are losing weigh dramatically across the board. The apps in the Utilities folder all drop from 468 MB to 111.6 MB, for example. Other apps are similarly svelte, as the graph below indicates.

I don't think you can actually comprehend that I don't even use an AV or anti spyware on my computer. Unlike you, I actually know how to use a computer and stay virus-free and don't need a rarely-used OS to keep me from getting a virus. Barely anyone uses a Mac, so why bother writing a virus that affects the handful of people who use it?

So all you've showed me is over-bloated applications got smaller. I'm glad they admitted their stuff was bloated (13MB calculator??, windows calc is 112KB). You're not helping your defense.

All I can do is laugh out loud that apple has a server version. That makes as much sense as tits on a bull. I can get free/open BSD...for free. Why pay apple for it?

I'll admit I indirectly bated him with inferring negative thoughts about his beloved apple company. If his posts are irrelevant then start marking them with the reporting a post feature.

:puke-r:

If you guys aren't carefull he might start thinking he's not wanted around here. Do we really have enough people we can afford to lose one? Isn't diversity a good thing? My point is that he's not doing anything wrong, other than promoting what he believes in and his own unique POV (point of view).

If people want to mute him, then that is their personal choice and I have no problem with that. When people start promoting others do that; complaining because someone quoted one of his posts; and encouraging others to report his posts then that is entirely different. Can't we be at least a little tolerant?

Oh well, whatever. People can continue to interpret his posts in any way they want. The option is there if people feel the need to complain.

Yes. Let's also get rid of all of the white men who are here. That should increase diversity immensely.

We should be left with about 50% Asians, 25% women, and 25% udaman. Considerably better than the 99.9999% white men that we have now.

Seriously, if diversity were more important than community here, there would be no community.

The smaller the community, the more important diversity is and this is a very small group. Incest is not a good thing in genetics, or ideas. If a community can not tolerate differences, can it even survive under the most minor stress or change?

I'm not saying that diversity is more important than having a community. I'm saying without diversity, and tolerance, the community will not exist. So embrace differences and grow (or at least stay the same) rather than excising differences and shrink. Differences are a good thing!

Back on topic... both Quicktime Alternative and VLC will play Quicktime without any added modification, but neither of them quite behave in the way that end users expect when visiting web sites that offer streaming quicktime, particularly movie trailer web sites.

If Media Player does Quicktime natively without forcing someone to use a download tool or something similarly odd, I'd call that a win.

For what it's worth, Windows 7 seems to support damned near everything right out of the box. I was able to play x.264 .mkv files in the Media Player that ships with Windows 7 without being prompted to download anything. Since nobody rips TV shows or encodes porn in .mov format I haven't had a reason to test that.

... and a quick check says that the current Windows 7 build doesn't do .mov either. Too bad.
