    video switch

So I'v got a 32 inch panasonic TV, the regular kind not lcd or plasma. It has two video inputs one in the back and one in the front. We were hooking the kids vsmile and plug in tv games through the front input but the little hands of our littlest one wants to grab any wire and shake it...

NEWZ: Western Digi "My Book " Pro Edition II

Merc was saying comcast was down in his apartment complex. Maybe they haven't fixed it yet. Or this could be too easy of a target for him, so he let it speak for itself. Or he's just getting tired of bashing WD.

    password management tool

http://www.keepass.org/ I use it and recommend it. Sourceforge seems to be unavailable at the moment so that site is too. But try back later. It uses a master password and has password generators that accept random input from mouse or keyboard and generates a password for you. It also lets...

    Modifying boot.ini

I hear you Bozo but I think that would still have the IDE drive as the 'master'. So actually the computer would be booting off the IDE drive but running off the SATA drive. I think windows needs to be reinstalled on the SATA drive without the IDE drive attached. This should fix the MBR and...

    Here Comes DDR-3 !

But I thought we knew this even before DD2 hit the shelves. They (intel/amd) didn't want to adopt it because they knew something better was just around the corner. But they couldn't wait so we get DDR2. Or maybe I was thinking of something else.

    Modifying boot.ini

I haven't followed the whole thread... but it seems to me that you can plug just the sata drive in (disconnected ide) and then reinstall windows. This should correct any problems booting to the sata drive. Then configure the boot.ini for the ide drive. Then hook the ide drive up.

    Formmail and Japanese characters

    Server 2003/memory

The 700MB is reserved only in terms of mapped address space (physical location to mapped location used by windows). You need to turn on PAE to be able to address the 700MB that got mapped/shifted above the 4GB boundary. Otherwise like in the articles I linked, it is sitting there using...

    Server 2003/memory

This is a windows thing. It has to do with physical memory versus virtual/mapped memory thing. Somebody with more experience than me has explained it here but more specifically here and here.

    Passively cooled S939 solution?

Unfortunately no. Looking at what is available in non SLI from gigabyte and at vendors I don't see much. There is the GA-K8NF-9 at newegg and zipzoomfly but gigabyte supposedly has a GA-K8NF-9-RH. Not sure what the RH stands for or what the difference is. It looks passively cooled but it has...

Gigabyte K8N Ultra 9 This is the original motherboard I was going to put in my computer. I opted for the SLI version and I think that was a mistake as all my PCI slots were full from the initial build.

    Speedfan update

I'm sure you had a recent backup and can just restore, correct? If not are you going to try to recover the data from the drive? Or is it really just the remains of toast and doesn't spin up or be recognized at all?

    Preferred firewall for Windows?

The thing about zone alarm is you have to use an old version and one that works for you. Then turn off the automatic updates. Car RANT

Come on now that analogy doesn't hold up for exactly the reasons I was trying to convey. You can't really compare a car purchase which is probably at every 2-3 years for the die hard lease people and for most everyone else probably 5-10 maybe 20 years to a cpu purchase which for us enthusiasts...

Yeah that Criss Angel guy does some weird magic stuff. I saw an afternoon of his tv show the other weekend. There was stuff like making a elephant disappear in the middle of a parking lot with a ring of people around it. Walking on water a hotel pool. He even took his shoes off mid way through.
