Maxtor card worked well in my bro's PC, thanks Merc. The transfer went SLOW as in 3-4 hours. I transfered using maxtor's software with the old drive hooked up to the onboard controller and the new drive hooked up to the add-in card. Windows seems to be fine. I suspect if I'd have used ghost...

    what color is this?

Also wanted to say that with many colors, especially this one, the other colors around it matter quite a bit. I declared it purple comparing it to the clearly blue car in your avatar. But the FI theme I use is also heavily blue oriented. You might try to put it on a completely white page or a...

This makes me think somehow the sql server isn't configured to accept remote connections. Have you tried it over a lan? What did you mean by locally, on the same machine or on a different machine on your lan?

Recommend a 17" Flat Panel Monitor

About the 19/20" I took my dad to best buy and showed him all about native resolutions and how every other resolution on it looks crap. And he runs his current computer monitor at 800x600. So I tried to get him to buy one with at least a native res of 1600x1200 so 800x600 wouldn't look like...

What is a high temp for an AMD 1800+

What is a high temp for an AMD 1800+ processor? My dad's computer is running close to 60C. This has me concerned. When I opened the case it was dust bunny city. I'm thinking I need to add a couple new case fans and either reapply or replace the processor's heatsink and fan.

Can you guys recommend a 17" Flat Panel Monitor? My pops wants to replace his monitor with a 17" flat panel. He doesn't have the cash for a 20" dell like I have. And the best buy seemed expensive. So yes money is a factor but let me know what you think. I told him to get the Samsung 17"...

    Software to control hardware

You can setup windows through policy or somehow to exclude certain drive letters from view. And browsing from explorer will not let you access those drives. But I can work around it to get access to those drives. So it isn't 100% foolproof but will stop novice users. It is setup this way...

    Is NVIDIA the new VIA?

THere is a thread around here where I detailed my issues with the onboard nic in my nforce4 based motherboard. I would download stuff and it would randomly switch sections of the download. I have to use the second nic, a marvel one. Glad to see some recognition of the problem.

    Dang 48Bit LBA

So for everybody's edification, my dad's computer a Gigabyte GA-7DX revision 4.3, with southbridge VT82C686B did not see the whole drive only 137GB. I didn't see what BIOS revision it had but I didn't want to mess with that. So I had to use the syba card with the silicon image 0680 to support...

I use picasa, even wrote a litte loader that makes it only run on one core to solve an indexing problem it had. I think I have one around... not sure if I threw it out or not... It is just that his PCI slots are full, I'll just toss the modem card out as he doesn't need that anymore. Dang 48Bit LBA

So if the bios doesn't handle 48 Bit LBA, it won't work. Despite what intel says about the 810 chipset? Seems weird though as it shouldn't have been accessing past 137GB to do anything. So why the lockups?
