Is that 3D box metallica and grounded? If it is some kind of thermoplastic resin alone, then you will want to create a grounding shield, but it still won't conduct heat well.

Assuming the post-kickstand price is correct, the 8-bay Ugreen is $1500 with 8GB of RAM and an i5-1235U. It has 2x 10GbE and one PCIe slot. The Syndology DS1823xs+ is $1800 with 8GB of RAM. It has one 10GbE and one PCIe slot. QNAP doesn't have exactly a matching product, so would be more...

I would not buy that kind of product since the software may be terrible and only supported for a limited time. I'm not familiar with the UGREEN 绿联 UGOS. Maybe you can install other OS/apps, but that is not worth the hassle for most people.

The 7900x and 7950X were 170W in 2022. It's nothing new for AM5 12/16 cored parts. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zen_4#Raphael If the Zen 5 is the same power for better performance, that's not a bad thing.

The 4500U looks be comparable to the i5-1145G7 of that era (~4 years ago). The cooling system is crucial to performance and if that is in a larger and heavier laptop it will perform better after the first 30 seconds than the same CPU in a T&L laptop. I wish I could use a laptop at home, but...

If your workloads are sensitive to single-threaded performance, then the difference between 3950X->5950X->7950X was significant each time, around 20-25%. In a period of about 3 years the performance improvement per core was >50% and multithreaded was >60%. That was huge and maybe we won't see...

    question Which Tablets

I'm not expecting anything Samsung "FE" to be fantastic. The Lendovo is obviously a step down in the lower-resolution and even wimpier SoC setup. It's also larger, which I don't want to hold. The S9 FE tablet seems to have basically the same guts as the A54 phone, with a higher-res but...

    question Which Tablets

Something has happened yet again to my links. :( I was looking at the S9 FE 10.9', not the larger one. I doubt that it is worth spending over $700 for the S9 and its slightly better display. I'm not playing video games or anything that should be affected to much by the SoC (exogynous 1380)...

The oldest Ryzens I use is the 5950x, which is in a secondary computer. I'll have to decide if it is worth a $400 board to reuse the 7950X and maybe another OS is necessary (I cannot recall). I only have a spare 32GB of DDR5, so it would have less RAM than the 5950X. I might just replace the...

My old tablets were nice, but long deadly by now. The newer tablest are larger than ever, other than the models with low-res displays. I don't want to to spend too much. What are the thoughts of the 10.9'' Samsung Galaxy in 2023?

INtel has about 75% of the x86-64 laptop market since 2020, so obviously AMD still has a long way to go. Maybe we will have a better Tyzen 5 for laptops in Q1 2025, but by then iNtel will have their 15th gen CPUS/GPUs. I'm still awaiting the verdict on whether Ryzen 5 will have SMP or some kind...

I could remove the SSDs and wipe them somewhere outside of the laptop, but I have to remove the back each time. Something has happened to my post. The 2x 4TB SSDs are massively overheating. According to the specs the temperature should be 70°C, but after 300-400GB of constant writes such as when wiping, the drives reach over 80°C and start to slow down. At 84°C it's like 20 MB/sec. writes or less and...
