LG V10 available with intro deal - 200GB micro sd, 3000MaH battery, charge cradle

Not sure how long I've had my G5; I got it right as it came out. And now that my wife is on Google Fi, I have a spare G5 to swap to. Won't be changing phones anytime soon.

A while ago I had a good digital OTA antenna mounted to the outside of the house and a cable routed in. I haven't found a solution I'm happy with yet; I'd love to connect said antenna to a network device of some kind and run a program on any computer to watch the stuff, but I haven't done the...

Intel X299: What is it good for?

Part of the R&D budget at work. I want to make sure there are no issues with the Threadripper platform on ESXi before I buy them for production use. The GPU I'll probably use for Etherium or something after I'm done with the benchmarks (unless it is better than the 1080ti I'm running now).

Cell phones & plans (v. consolidation and old people)

That sounds like an OS update. There may be a way to restrict these downloads to when the phone is on WiFi. I believe my phone package on Google Fi does not count OS updates towards my data cap.

Anybody planning a trip for this event?

I've been asked to set up something at work to help people view it safely. Haven't put any thought into it yet. Probably just going to run a live video feed to a nearby TV.

Intel X299: What is it good for?

Eventually it will run a bunch of virtual machines, but I'm curious how many cores I can get above zero running a worst-case gaming scenario. In one of the games I play I run 5 clients simultaneously along with a half-dozen supporting applications and screen capture. The 6900k I'm on now will...

Intel X299: What is it good for?

I've never had an AIO leak in any way. I've had the pump fail and the system crash, but it didn't break anything. Some of the coolers support controlling the pump speed via USB interface and software, but I don't want software controlling my cooling system. The pump isn't a significant source of...

Intel X299: What is it good for?

All the current CPUs and GPUs from all the manufacturers throttle their performance if temps get to a threshold. While I suspect that a really good air cooler in a really well ventilated case would be good enough, I want to remove that variable from my benchmarks. So the GPU has a factory...

I'm certainly not considering it. I don't feel that the potential upside is as large as it has been, and the uncertainty is still there. It seems like more cryptocurrencies came out before BTC was able to properly establish itself as a standard. To me this weakens the validity of the system...

Whether they were purchased or mined doesn't seem to be the big deal. Speculating when there was a lot of uncertainty and lucking out was the important part. I'm not sure that can be replicated now that cryptocurrency is an established thing.

Intel X299: What is it good for?

But at the moment even 6 cores is more than most applications can use. Single-core performance is (for most desktop users and gamers) way more important than cores 11-50. How does AMD hold up in single/double core performance?

    HOT

Thermal mass and slower, more efficient methods of heating/cooling can be efficient if you design it from the ground up to be so, and if you want a target temperature the whole time. Unfortunately for me, I like the temperature inside to be cool when it is hot out and warm when it is cold out.

    N.V.M.e. or "Envy Me"?

M.2 drives of up to 2TB are still reasonably priced, and their heat output is only significant compared to their size (they still consume less than a HDD). Cost per TB is still certainly a thing.

    Home NAS

There are lots of options depending on the aesthetic and budget, but that is a good cheap option. I think the most important thing is to isolate the unit from the floor. Getting it off the ground a bit will also help prevent it from picking up dust particles. Link: http://a.co/5DoWEv0
  40. ddrueding

    Home NAS

In that configuration I'd just focus on making sure the unit is vibrationally isolated from the floor and then make sure the hard surfaces near it (back walls, floor, underside of table) have some sound absorbent stuff on them. That should leave it open enough to not restrict the airflow while...
