    NAS Drive

I think it's a very well formed question mark. What's wrong with it? Regarding FreeNAS, you have to manage it from the web interface. Use the user "root" at first, with the password you gave it during installation. Then create another user and use it to access it afterward. You should see...

You can see some results and expected ppd for the GTX 1080 in this thread : https://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=28784&start=51 Forum member Torin3 posted results for his GTX 1080 under Windows. Results under Linux should be 10-15% higher according to some FAH forum members. The GTX...

7200rpm SAS 4kn Drives Being Comparable to 10K rpm Drives.

Some HP folks told me a while ago that SAS interface handles random operation better than SATA. I haven't read on the subject enough to form an educated opinion, but it probably doesn't make a big difference. I've found this site, which while being quite generic, might be of some use ...

    Top-end System Build

The link for the Silverstone PSU, Corsair water cooling and Lian-Li chassis is borked : it links to the Asus motherboard. Nice chassis, although it is quite expensive. Will you put passive adhesive heatsinks on the Samsung 950 Pro?

7200rpm SAS 4kn Drives Being Comparable to 10K rpm Drives.

In the NAS thread, Bozo wrote this : I contacted them late last week to get a quote for a larger NAS. Their proposal was very price competitive with comparable alternatives, but was a bit too high-end for what our company is ready to spend. Nevertheless, there was one interesting statement...

    NAS Drive

QNAP's NAS units are typically cheaper at any given performance level. For instance, this QNAP NAS is a very powerful unit for only 1227$. You'll need to buy the 10GbE NIC separately, but there are several compatible models and you could probably get one cheap on eBay. You'd save money with...

    NAS Drive

The DS1515 or the DS1515+? The DS1515 is enough for your needs IMO. About the slow speed transfer limited by the gigabit port, you have four LAN ports that you can combine (link aggregation). It won't improve transfer speed from a single device, but it will allow full gigabit transfers from...

Oh no, not this again! At least tell me it's 4x8GB modules plus 4x16GB modules per CPU, not 6x whatever per CPU. E5-26xx all have quad channel memory, not triple channel.

    IBM FlashSystem A9000

If it's anything like an HP 3PAR, then you're spot on about this. We bought one two and a half years ago and there were at least twenty different part numbers, most licensing-related, on the unit's invoice.

    IBM FlashSystem A9000

It probably falls in the category that if you have to ask, you can't afford it. I went to a Nimble storage presentation a few weeks ago. Their most popular model, the CS300, cost in the low 100,000$ for a 12TB SAN and it's a hybrid unit. The IBM all-flash unit must cost more per TB and since...

    4k TVs and Monitors

Meanwhile, I'm using a 17" monitor with a 1280x1024 definition. I'm about the only SF member more miserable than Sedrosken, monitor-wise (although it is more by choice than lack of means; I'm waiting for a true deal on a good larger monitor).

    Proposed NAS build

I'm trying to find ways for building an affordable yet fast and reliable high capacity NAS for my current employer. The easy button is to go with a QNAP rackmount NAS like the TVS-871U-RP, but it is still quite expensive. I'm trying to find an alternative. I thought about an HPE Proliant ML30...

    10TB helium drive

It's already available too. About 575U$ or 735$CDN. More expensive than the 6TB and 8TB per capacity, but not outrageously so. I don't know if the holes are placed differently than on the standard drives or if they are at odd positions like on the HGST Helium drive. SATA only so far, no SAS.
