    Folding@Home

So I'll have lasted almost two years at the top of the team. I apparently took the lead on early December 23rd 2013. I should lose it about 8 days short of the two years mark. I won't upgrade my gears before the 14nm-process-made GPUs become available. That's like 6 months away. Handruin...

    Something Random

My last TV was a Sony Trinitron 27" that I bought in 2000. I've stopped using it around 2008 and I gave it two or three years ago. I've not bought another TV since. I watch everything on my computer's display.

I'm still very satisfied with the JVC HA-RX700 I bought two months ago. Much lower-end than what you guys are considering, but I'd have to pay four or five times more in orer to get a model with a noticeably better experience. For ~45$, they are more than ok.

Microsoft Moving to Per-Core Licencing for Server 2016

As for the CAL, what a ripoff! It's not enough to pay thousands of dollars for the server (be it the OS, Exchange of SQL), you have to bleed for every user connecting to the server. F*cking corporate crooks, that's what they are.

Microsoft Moving to Per-Core Licencing for Server 2016

I don't know about Exchange, but they did the very same thing for MS SQL last year. Then again, not all servers need MS SQL, but they all need an OS, no matter what's their purpose. If only the entire market wasn't so tied up with Microsoft's products. Exchange, Project, Office, Visio, RDP...

Microsoft Moving to Per-Core Licencing for Server 2016

I don't care much about what Oracle does. Not that many businesses have Oracle servers. Most businesses have Windows Server. The impact isn't comparable.

The thread icons have changed today. Most threads show up with a pastel red icon. It's disturbing and I don't see any other style (I have forum default or vB4 default style). Please give me back the old style.

    Cheap Display

Dell describes the screen as glossy, with anti-glare. Now that's special. Otherwise, in my experience, Dell monitors offer above-average picture quality, but below-average lifespan. Your mileage may vary. I've never seen this particular model before.
  12. CougTek

    Cheap Display

You do realize that the colors and contrast ratio of all monitors in that price range will look like garbage compared to the 2K$ Eizo Nanao monitors you're used to, right? You also realize that an elder with a bad eyesight won't really notice those issues?

    Cheap Display

Something like this LG 27" monitor in big sale due to the cyber Monday would probably be ok. It's main drawback is that the blacks are dark grey. Otherwise, it's ok. And only 150$ for another few hours.
  14. CougTek

    Cheap Display

What type of video outputs your H520s has? From pictures on a Google search, I guess there's a D-sub and an HDMI port. A cheap LG IPS 23.6" monitor would probably do the job. On a related note, I've recently installed a 27" FullHD monitor to a 60+ family member and that's one of the best gift...

    4k TVs and Monitors

I'm tempted to to get this 24" 4K Viewsonic monitor at 475$CDN at NewEgg, but I think I'll pass. The reviews are quite good for this model and I might grab one later on, just not now. My aging graphic card (GeFarce 440GT) wouldn't drive it anyway.

Damn! Don't know what stuff you take, but it's strong. No transmission or gearing? That's some special car you're considering. Definition of a transmission. A CVT is a transmission (continually variable transmission) and it's probably what your futur car will have.

I'm pretty sure that anything MS Office 2003 is EOL at Microsoft. If Microsoft no longer supports it, it means there's no warranty it will play nice with newer OS. Is the rest of the environment equally dated, like the TS being on Server 2003? I know upgrading is expensive, but if you can't...

You can see the daily output of the individual clients on the same system. The GPU client's production was lower on the low-end AMD system than it was on the Core i7 system. The CPU wasn't participating on the AMD system because I didn't feel it was worth it. Its contribution was too low to...

I tend to prefer stuff that's more manual, but in case of a powered mower, I would only buy one that stops the blade once you let the handle go. That way, if I ever fall for whatever reason, I won't find myself missing a foot. That being said, unless you have a large field, a mecanical mower...

We'll use the switch to test transceivers (Fiberstore, AddOn, etc) and 3rd party FO cables. It will also connect industrial equipment like PLC, rugged networking switches and engineering stations to the rest of our network during development stages. 10G is overkill, but the logic is that if...

Need An Affordable Switch With 10G SFP+ Ports

I need an inexpensive switch with at least 2 (but ideally 4) SFP+ 10G ports. It has to be a managed switch. Smart managed or fully managed isn't important. I only need to configure VLAN on it, so anything with L2 management should be fine. No redundant power supplies needed. Same goes for...

We use the Brother MFC-J6920DW at our office. It is enough for the needs of a 30-employe office. People don't complain much about it, except perhaps when the ink is low on some cartridges, the orange/golden logos show stripes of colors instead of an equal blend. Otherwise, it's fine. Even...
