Nichia Develops 60 Lumen Per Watt White LED

I'm guessing a power issue as well. All my LEDs that are _not_ dimmable have issues and fail early even if I don't have them on a dimmer. The higher-powered outdoor ones I have have actually killed a couple Insteon switches in addition to misbehaving themselves.

My most common solution is a piece of cardboard to prevent the motherboard from shorting on the metal shelves in the rack. I position the boards at the edge of the shelf so that the longer part of the PCI card covers extends below the shelf. If I'm not putting the system on a shelf with an...

So maybe more than a dozen :p. It's been three years since two of my machines were in cases. The only reason I used a case for this one was to better secure the water tubes.

I have the Hero 4 Black, and it is a good camera with 2 caveats. 1. Wide-angle lens. Really wide. I don't know if there is an aftermarket way to fix this, but doubt it would fit in the watertight enclosure. 2. No view-finder. They do sell a small LCD that can mount to the back of the camera...

Just a follow-up to this. Turns out EC2 can give you pretty respectable GPU machines, and the program I'm using is OpenCL accelerated. What took 46 hours with CPUs will take 6 with GPUs. Specs for the machine: [/LIST] The big one is still less than $3/hr.

Running only 20MP from a FF sensor is one way to get good low-light performance. It also lets you get high FPS numbers. I'm most impressed by the 4k@60FPS video mode; last I checked that was a RED thing (or GoPro, but you know what I mean).

Nichia Develops 60 Lumen Per Watt White LED

None of my recent fixtures are at my place, but JTR did wire up an LED conversion for an antique chandelier years ago. The LEDs are at the top of where the "candles" are and shine directly upward with no diffusion. From any place below the plane of the LEDs there is no visible source of the...

Nichia Develops 60 Lumen Per Watt White LED

LEDs are effectively point sources. If you don't have a lot of them you should consider either diffusion or indirect light. A lot of the fixtures I'm putting in lately are designed to throw against a wall or ceiling. The two bedside lights I'm putting together mount into the ceiling, but are...

    Why are chargers so lame?

And for flights, I haven't even tried to check batteries, so I wouldn't be able to tell you. The craziest I've done is bring about 15lbs of LiIon batteries in carry-on for United; security didn't even look twice.

Clearing snow from a roof or solar panels is as easy as heating them from underneath. Perhaps run a coil of water/antifreeze under the panels/roof and route the other end far enough underground to find non-freezing temperatures?
