Instead of trying to clone the disk to another disk, make an image of the old disk and install it on the new disk. I have had much better luck with imaging than cloning.

I have had too many family members and friends die from cancer. A family member is going through Chemo and radiation treatments right now. If just one person is cured of this bastard disease because of F@H, then it's worth it.

Yes, I like Macrium. Acronis does a good job, but the GUI gives me hemorrhoids. If you use Server 2008, the built in back up is good too. I have made backups with it on live systems running SQL Server without issue.

You should be able to boot from the CD and go back to a 'Restore Point'. Or install a back up if you have made one from Win 7.

You are correct about the heating. But my computer is in the basement, an unheated part of the house. So the heat generated doesn't help the heated part of the house. (my heat is electric..a heat pump) I'll still be folding on and off.

Don't a lot of RAID controllers initialize the RAID array on the fly? This would really slow down the arrary until done.

I have a WD Raptor that I set up for my page file. I let Windows 7 create it's own pagefile there. It created a 16GB pagefile, exactly how much memory I have.
