    OpenIndiana vs Solaris 11 zones

Yes I did. Now I have trouble just renaming a directory within the /opt directory of the global zone. I deleted the original file and then copied it from another computer, along with its entire directory. When I put the directory in /opt, it becomes write-protected and I no longer can rename...

    OpenIndiana vs Solaris 11 zones

I haven't tried. Will do tomorrow. Inside the zone, the file isn't there. I think the file system is inherited because I didn't do anything special to give a FS of its own.

    OpenIndiana vs Solaris 11 zones

Odd problem I now have. I try to copy a file from the global zone into a container. A file with a similar name was in the container before I tried to copy the new file. When I try : root@globalzone:~# cp /etc/acertainfile.conf /export/home/zonename/root/etc/ I get : cp...

SSDs - State of the Product?

I think people interested in Intel's Sandforce drives should rush and buy the older generation before the 335 and 525 series replace them completely. Whatever slim performance and lower power gain the new generation might have over the older one won't be of much use when the drive's memory will...

I'm almost certain Handruin has a passkey, otherwise he wouldn't have climbed to ~5 million points so far. If the big GPU units are like the CPU big units, you have to complete a certain amount of "ordinary" units before getting the good ones. So I wouldn't systematically delete the other...

Well...I should add 150K ppd to daily output sometimes next week. Meanwhile, we should help Dave to setup his monster card even if the client isn't quite ready for Kepler. If we can make it work, the point reward will be tremendous.

From what I can read, AMD still has issues with OpenCL and that is the primary cause why their client cannot be optimised as much as Nvidia's. The point reward for AMD's graphic cards is miserable compared to what you can get on Nvidia's stuff. The GTX 580 still is quite expensive, but I've...

    OpenIndiana vs Solaris 11 zones

It's good to know. But these days, as my company has no money to spend, I'm a lot more interested in OpenIndiana than I am with Solaris. Yearly +1000$ support contract licence per socket isn't very popular with the administration folks. I'm halfway thru the optimization of their production...

You could move to Gangtok, between the Buthan and Nepal. It has to be quite a bit fresher up there than in the oven where you live. There are northern parts in the West, but I don't think Kashmir is such a great idea with the territorial semi-war with Pakistan.

The hidden partition is probably the recovery partition. If it's not too big, you can leave it as-is. You'll never use it, but it depends how much you value your time if you decide to flush everything and re-install the entire thing or not.

I calculated that 256 threads in a Supermicro filled with E5-2680, a "scant" 1TB DDR3 1600MHz RAM total and 7.6TB of SSD storage would only cost ~56000$. It also fits in a 4U space instead of a 5U space like the Oracle server.
