    OpenIndiana vs Solaris 11 zones

Well, I'm highly disapointed now. Network communication is choppy. "Top" tells me the RAM and CPU are turning their thumbs most of the time, but my clients connected to the server are receiving data in chunks and then nothing for a second or two. Data should normally be flowing smoothly...

Solved! Even after I copied your line within the zone, it still blocked the access to ports lesser than 1024. All pissed, I followed the link you provided. The command that did the trick was (from the global zone, with the zone being halted) : #>zonecfg -z zonename #zonename>set...

    PC not booting :(

Get an i5-3470. Period. What, explanations? Come on! Oh, ok... It's an Ivy Bridge with 4 cores and the HD4000 graphics and it's relatively affordable. Around here, it's 10$ more than the 3450 with the slower HD2500 graphics and 30$ less than the 3570 that operates at only 200MHz more...

I think it is. Apparently, it had a magnitude of 4.5 and occured at ~0:19am. I live more than 50Km from the epicentre and I felt it enough to know it wasn't a truck passing in of the house.

    OpenIndiana vs Solaris 11 zones

I haven't setup any virtual switch. I've only created vnics and assosciated them to the different zones. Is it bad to do so? I have 6 vnics and two physical nics. 5 of thevnics need to be assosciated with the same physical nics. So maybe the problem is related to the fact that my program...

    OpenIndiana vs Solaris 11 zones

One last issue I have to make my config work. Within a zone, I need to open the port 443 to allow our program to communicate, but apparently, ports below 1000 are blocked by default. How can I open just one? I haven't configured a firewall on that machine. Anything that filters the ports is...

    PC not booting :(

In the Ivy Bridge lineup, the i3 3220 is probably the closest to the Sandy Bridge i3 2120 Merc mentioned above. I'd not go with less than a true 4-core CPU myself, but if you don't have the money for it, the i3 3220 is probably the next best thing. You'll probably also want a motherboard with...

    USB 3.0 Cases

Here's a new one, about the same size (19.5L) as the Cooler Master Elite 120, but better IMO : Fractal Design Node 304. No external bays, but internal space for 6 drives and capable of hosting heatsinks up to 165mm high. Accepts standard PSU too. Two front USB 3.0 ports of course. ~80$.

My Toshiba laptop's HDD Protection program keeps getting disabled

If the ultimate goal is to enhance your chances to have a laptop and a drive that last long, one of my first recommendation would be to stop jiggling it all the time, because no matter if the drive protection software works or not, you sure don't help the drive by shaking it like you do.

Is it possible to assign two VNICs to a single zone? I've tried and so far, I've not found a way (it's only been 10 minutes). When in the zone configuration mode, you can "add net" and then set the physical NIC (or VNIC), but when you try to add a second NIC, it replaces the first one instead...

The fact that the user is very old (so near retirement) and that despite his food abuse, his last laptop lasted 5 years push me to recommend another laptop. Do you know I they come with the drive caddies or if you have to buy the horribly expensive drives made for them in order to get them? It's a lot less interesting if you have to pay two or three times the price of the drive in order to have storage. A 2173$ 100GB SSD? No thanks.
