    New phone time: old-school

I will check it out next week. Since the phone companies seem to have forced constant upgrades by not allowing battery replacement, it only makes sense to buy one with a larger capacity to start with. Within two years it will probably suck and the whole phone will need to be disposed anyway.

I don't use the ultra-wide lenses (e.g., 11-24 mm) as it becomes increasingly difficult to compose without perspective issues. Even with the 16-35 it can be an issue. I assume those new designs would be mainly for PJ use. I'd rather see some newer tilt/shift lenses. A lot of designs are...

The brightness is not so much of an issue as the contrast and containing the illumination to only the desired segments. Everything else should be pitch black. Many LEDs, especially those in the early days, suffered light leak that the neon did not.

Once I had a tire blow out a <15K, and the manufacturer claimed that it was normal wear. The 50K guarantee was BS. I was driving normally on a public canyon road most of the year.

Tires never seem to last anywhere near the rated treadwear with a decent traction. I suppose highway use at constant speed is closer, but how many always drive like that compared to stop and go or winding roads? I used to get less than 15,000 through the canyons.

I had one in the early 70s. The main issue is that the numbers are increasingly blocked further to the rear of the tube and at angles away from the perpendicular. 7-segment displays were a huge advancement in that they are much easier to read from any angle. My favorite clock ever had a 6...

Although cameras have improved internal image processing recently, it is nowhere close to what can be done with skilled PP. Obviously for many purposes, especially commercial work, image quality is not paramount and jpegs are good enough. In 2016 I reprocessed some RAW images from 2003 (1Ds)...

Doesn't that require the internet connection? I don't want to use the Wi-Fi in certain countries. I've disabled it in the BIOS. I've also noticed that the internet time does not quite match my GPS, which should be quite accurate when receiving 18 satellites, including the Glasnost.

So the new v2 version has higher lumens in the brightest mode, but the run time must be ridiculously short. V1 only lasts about 30 minutes before it is almost dead. There is no decent middle output; it needs a 200 lumen mode.
