So here is another example of the Synology mentality. They updated the DS1800+ series to DS1819+ and it STILL has a stupid Intel Celeron processor. :frusty:

The writes of the 831X are limited to about 220MB/sec. for large files and sometimes are less if the drives are too full. I have no network per se, just direct 10GbE SFP+ connections from NAS to PC. It's even worse with encryption, dropping to 150 or so. :( I blame the Arms CPU, but am not sure.

    Samsung QVO

I have no personal use for any SSD that writes at only 80 GB/sec. However, I'm sure it will be fine for normal people that don't write much. At first I was hoping there would be a $400-500 SSD that could be used as a backup for my 4TB EVO. What a joke.

4TB is $800 EVO is currently. I Think $600 is a bit high for the sluggard QVO, but there is little competition. There Are MORE choices in lesser capacities.

    Samsung QVO

Samsung still makes the 4GB 860 Pro, which is in the price range of a theoretical 8TB QVO. It probably doesn't sell well either. The write performance of 80MB/sec. after the SLC buffer is consumed is just terrible...

Is it just me or is Synology not producing much new lately? I'd really like to upgrade to a larger backup unit from the TS-831X v1 and would like to buy another Synology, but there are no good choices. QNAP is frequently producing new models recently. In general there are not many useful...

It uses micro USB. The whole thing is a rip-off because they kept the MRSP price the same as the old xb30. This week I bought a second one on sale and will try to synch them. I have to order some long USB cables to keep them plugged in.

Look at the impacts of the industrial revolution in Europe and the US or more recently the mass adoption of TV in the mid-20th century. TV was supposed to dull the minds of the children, make them blind, etc. Then in the 70s and 80s it was video games, then computer games, etc. Cultures...
