The battery life sucks, reflector is funky, beam is ugly and asymmetric, controls are poor, and there is no way to disable accidental power on other than battery removal. :(

For me it's all about the humidity so I always check the dew point. Over 32°C/90°F on humid days can be very uncomfortable with only mild exertion.

I received the metric system in the late 60s, but I'm sure you know the masses still use °F for weather in the US. In school and at work most everything has been metric, except pressure units such as PSI and Torr lingered on far too long. Converting back and forth mentally during...

The problem was that the heat index was 7°C/12.6°F higher than the actual temperature. When it is already 35°C all that humidity is just terrible. I'll take the CA/AZ/UT/NV dry desert heat any day. You can lose a lot of water weight and dehydrate without feeling wet. Of course that can be...

    10 gig Ethernet

Recently I've been looking at the QNAP switches. The QSW-1208-8C has 12 ports (8 combo SFP+/10GBASE-T) and the QSW-1204-4C has 8 (4 combo). I can see that flexibility would come in handy with multiple devices. They do have fans, but smart controlled. The worst case total power is 49W with all...

Not that it is a huge difference, but the model with 4GB RAM is $1300 compared to $1500 for the 8GB model. Maximum RAM capacity is 16GB, which makes more sense than 8GB. However, the memory slot is a Long-DIMM. How does that socket or specs differ from the regular DDR4 RAM used on typical PC...

That could be very nice for some other purposes, but it is double the weight. The turbo mode is only good for 3 minutes, but even at half power the rest of the time it would be more than decent. Do you have one of those Catapult v6 lights?

Maximum reach (>30,000 cd) and minimum size and weight for a single 18650 light. The criteria previously included USB rechargeability. I don't see any replacement for the XP-L HI V3 LEDs yet which would probably be the main difference in future lights. I have dropped the EC4GT from the list...

I was thinking that it would eventually replace the TS-831X, which has the original 1.4GHz Annapurna CPU (not the 1.7GHz Amazon one). From what I gather an A72 is a big improvement over an A15, especially allowing encryption without the dramatic slowdown. I won't be the first to jump in on...

There is no wiring and I don't want to make any infrastructure changes now. My job changed this year and I think next year the organization's role may be different, so I would be relocating again. What do you think of the TS-1635AX? It has 12 bays and an A72 Armanda processor. It is no Xenon...

Yeah, there must be no room for a switching charger. The current stays about 0.75A, which is not great, but faster than some flashlights internal charging. I suppose there is still nothing better than the MH-20GT for the limited weight travel, so a USB battery won't change my strategy. I'll...
