PC Gaming = World of Suck

I noticed today that Serious Sam 3 is 35.99$ on pre-orders. That's quite cheap for a game that's pretty much certain to be a hit for the fans of the series (like me).

    The shock, the horror!

Just so you know, he wrote nearly 10 decades. And even if it was a full ten decades, then it would mean that AMD sold computers in 1911, so they would have also sold computer systems by 1914 since they still sell computer parts nowadays. All this, in Lunar's hypothetical world, of course.

    Are people in Sumatra color-blind?

Here's a question for Paugie, because he's the closest around here to Sumatra. Are people living there color-blind? Because that's the only explanation I have for the color used in Sumatra PDF reader. Great little program, but no one normal can like yellow that much. It's got to be a...

    Hydronic Underfloor Heating

I know someone who has that to heat his home and I've not heard him complain. Supposed to be quite efficient, but anything in my home producing 64dB at 1m would soon be an ex-thing. I hope you have a garage connected to the house where you can put it and build walls of noise-absorbing...

    The shock, the horror!

Yes, AsRock is the cheapo branding of Asus and the memory sockets are designed to be on each side of the LGA2011 socket. There's nothing wrong there. What's wrong is the chipset fan. The return of the chipset fan ; now I know for sure that God doesn't exist.

    Large-scale water cooling (heat transfer)

Absolutely false. My room has two computers taking each less than 150W and it's by far the hottest room of this floor. Temperatures have dropped below the freezing point for several days during the night here and I've never had to start the electric heater yet. I also have two other 150W...

Do you have height limitations for the heatsinks? The retail heatsink that comes with the i7 2600K is particularly inadequate if you value quiet operation. I never thought it would allow an OC to 4.6GHz. Even 30$ heatsink towers would do miracles here. Your CPU temperatures would drop by at...

Upgrading from a C2D 7200 to a dual-core i3 2100 (or i3 two thousand anything for that matter) isn't worth the investment of a new PC IMO. Go quad core or up. Lots of RAM too. That 16GB you mention? Good idea. Especially since RAM is so cheap right now. Opt for DDR3 1600MHz because the...

A computer is like a heater with fans and some lighting. In an average computer, at least in an average computer I build, there's 4 fans (PSU, CPU, GPU and enclosure). Put them at 2W each (and it's often less than that), you waste 8W to rotate the fans. The HD LED and Power LED need maybe 1...

There's no place to put the pump/radiator inside a 2U enclosure. There's no hole to pass the cables from inside to outside the enclosure to operate the pump/radiator externally. I'm not aware of any water-cooling solution for the LGA771.
