No. You're working under the assumption that -- somehow -- Intel's prices are the "correct" ones. No such thing. The customer *is* price sensitive. AMD isn't stupid; they're raising prices because Intel won't lower theirs. Intel could put out an inferior product at a lower price, but...

Presumably, that's possible. An odd number of platters is still an even number of sides. I don't know off hand how their dual actuator drives are supposed to work, so I don't know how they're tackling these kinds a issues.

I think that this just points out that AMD's life no longer depends on pricing its processors so cheaply. They've gained some pricing power because Intel won't lower its prices to compete.

I'm guessing that the top two slots share lanes and operate as either a single x16 or two x8. The other two are probably a x8 and a x4, sharing lanes with the M.2 slots.

If you get a the 10g and M.2 on the motherboard, then you only need the add-in card for the storage ports. That's a single x8 slot.

This would have been a UTP cable, but I doubt it would have been a big difference. Went ahead and picked-up a five-pack of Cat 6 STP cables.

Of the x570 motherboards that I've seen, it seems like it's pick two on your first three requirements. It appears that most manufacturers are going with 3 m.2 slots but only 6 SATA ports. That's is easily fixed with an add-in card.

Found this calculator, and it looks like, as long as it doesn't catch on fire, any Cat5e or higher cable will do. It also turns out that I only have one cable of appropriate length that's not in use, so I have to order one anyway. :rolleyes:

It looks like Intel has not just stumbled badly, but actively failed to recover. AMD is executing and will capitalize. I feel like Intel would abandon the desktop if AMD weren't also making such inroads into its cash cow server territory.

The main problem is that you can't install a particular version of Windows 10. It'll only make up an installer for the current version.

Windows 10 either installs or it doesn't. I think that you're worried about activation. If you activated Windows 10 online in the past it should reactivate after a clean install.

I find that FreeBSD, while more difficult to use, is more stable and less hackey. Merging ZFS development has been long-time coming (the projects always traded code), but it was the meaningful death of Illumos that is real impetus.

I'm pretty sure that this has to do with which parts of the 1000/2000 series chips is linked to the RAM clock. If I recall correctly, the Infinity Fabric speed is linked directly to the memory clock. So, faster RAM makes crossing CCXes faster. Product differentiation? Four is "half way"...

Plenty of folks have 8 core/16 thread chips with 2 memory channels without running afoul memory bandwidth. So, in most cases, it can't be terrible to run 16 cores out two channels. At least each chiplet will have equal access to the memory, unlike the four-chip Threadripper 2000 CPUs.
