I wouldn't suggest solid state storage for archiving.

SMART data from SSDs is different than coming from spinning disks. Who is the drive's manufacturer and what does their software say about the state of the disk?

I'm doing upgrades and will have used 7200RPM SATA drives to sell. At least one 2TB drive and four 3TB drives. All Seagate and under warranty. Just seeing if anyone here is interested. I'll get the exact details when I have it.

Western Digital isn't any more special than most of the other SSD manufacturers. They don't make the controller or the flash. The BiCs3 flash is made by Toshiba.

One thing that I think that Epyc has going for it is a simple and relatively flat model structure. Intel spends too much effort slicing and dicing the market to squeeze a little more money, and it's going to confuse some people.

You'll need to get the i9-7900X or higher for enough PCIe lanes for all of those M.2 slots. Unless they're cheating your somewhere.

I agree that things aren't nearly as bad as the author suggests. We may not get major gains performance, but we should get decreasing price per gigabyte. I'd be okkay with that.

It sounds like there were a lot of people with a lot of data uploaded. I read forum posts of people with 10+TB. I know that I was guilty of backing up a lot of unnecessary stuff because it was unlimited, but that's a lot. Right now I'm looking at what the options are for other storage...

Bandwidth and flexibility come to mind. How many production x16 (let alone x8) SSD add-in cards are there? And how many of those are something other than smaller SSDs in a RAID 0?
