I'd like to get a nicer new PSU. I heard the Seasonics are good. I think something in the 500W range will be fine for me (if not more than enough). Can someone recommend a model & vendor? Thanks, C

GA-7S748 Not Stable with 400Mhz DDR

Well, I tried another optical. Also, tried swapping between master and slave and switched the optical and HDD between IDE ports (just to see if the symptom would change). The failure mode is at least consistent now, when I go to select a partition to install XP on, the system just shuts off...

GA-7S748 Not Stable with 400Mhz DDR

Ummm. WTF. I THOUGHT it was working OK. Now it reboots when the install is almost complete. Same with WinXP SP2. This is the board that was pulled from my father-in-laws system that had the CPU die. Maybe there is more to that story than meets the eye. :-( I have an IDE drive in there...

GA-7S748 Not Stable with 400Mhz DDR

Had an interesting learning experience. It appears the Sis748 lets you run your ram out of synch with your Socket A processors FSB. I have a 266mhz FSB CPU and setting the RAM to 'Auto' in BIOS sets the ram speed to 400Mhz. I thought this was a bonus! NOT! After multiple tries, it appears...

Powering up a Hard Drive when needed

Running WinXP and 2GB RAM, my 2ndary drive only spins up when I try to access data that is on it. After about 20minutes, it spins down and doesn't wake up again until I try to read data from or write to the drive. Maybe you can get what you're looking for by adding extra ram.

    Need LGA 775 Backplate

Mine came with one but I should not have peeled off the paper from the adhesive. I recently read that a little heating with a hair dryer would have made the backplate a little easier to get off but I didn't want to damage the M/B since I was selling it and (at the time) never thought I'd need a...

    Need LGA 775 Backplate

The backplate that came with my Scythe Ninja was completely bonded to a motherboard I had a while ago. 4 Sticks of RAM

I had a relatively new Toledo Core X2 processor so I'm not sure how to tell which ones would do it and which ones would not. I think the AM2 processors are less prone to this issue rather than the S939 one I had.

    General musings calculating power consumption

I ran 2x 7800GT in SLI for a while on an NF4 (power hungry IIRC) motherboard with an Antec SP-500 PSU w/o problem. That was with a 4400+ CPU, 2GB of RAM and three SATA HDDS. A single X1900XTX worked fine is well.

    New home! Advice welcome

One other thing about the roof... if you wait until you have a problem, you won't be in a good position to negotiate with your contractor on price & may not have time to shop around. So, definitely, be proactive rather than reactive.

    New home! Advice welcome

I would replace the roof now. You can't expect much more life out of it and if it does develop a problem, it could be very costly to fix the damage to your home after all is said and done. Also, when you plan to sell (about 7 years IIRC) it will have a newer roof on it which will be a great...
