When they balance the tires, they just add lead weights to the rims till there is no more wobble when spun. It would seem to me that any unbalancing caused by plastidip should be easily compensated by the normal balancing process.

problem Seagate GoFlex 4TB USB 3.0

Don't ever tell Seagate that you removed the drives from their external case. It will void their warranty even though it is much better for the drives to be outside their case. I've already made that mistake once. Never again. I'll lie first and put them back in the case for return.

    iPhone syndrome

If there is a backdoor, no one would ever advertise such and even if found the rule is denial, denial, denial. Even today, the NSA denies that it had a backdoor to early Windows products but it is hard to explain the second system key with the label NSAkey. Why would Windows even need a second...

My solution to all forms of Law enforcement issues: Don't do anything that would cause law enforcement to go after you. Then even if they do, it won't matter for there is nothing for them to see or use against you. The real problem with trying to keep law enforcement (or the Govt. in general)...

    Best CPU Benchmarks?

If it is compatible with 32 bit Win7 but not 64 then install the 32 bit version. For his uses, 64 bit Windows7 is totally unnecessary. It might not work, but I would at least try it. It is so much cheaper than replacing the printer/copier.

    Best CPU Benchmarks?

Also, replacing the computer will not fix the problem of not having a driver for your printer in Win7. Replace the computer and you still will not have a new driver. For a solution to that, you probably need to replace your perfectly good printer/copier. Lots of people had to do that when...

    Best CPU Benchmarks?

I'm making the assumption that it is no longer your main machine because of your sig. I have no problem being proactive. So what does the machine you are replacing have as its dedicated purpose? What does it need to do, that can't be done by your main machine? If it doesn't have a...

    Best CPU Benchmarks?

Then why are you even asking about a benchmark? Is there something that your current setup can't do that you want or need to do? Is there something that is taking so much time that it is annoying or frustrating you? That is what you need to be talking about, not a seeking a benchmark to see...

    Best CPU Benchmarks?

I'm sorry, but your approach is screwy. There is no such thing as the perfect CPU benchmark and especially not a govt. approved one. What is perfect for you, is not the same as what if the best for another because everyone's needs are different. A person that video encodes extensively is...

    Virtual Machine Licensing

I thought that forced re-activation required at least 2 tracked HW changes. If it is just the MAC (i.e. network card), then I don't think that is enough. A MB change guarantees it though but I believe that is because it changes several tracked HW items.

If the data does not last, then you will have to read it again and the rewrite it to keep it from losing it. SSD's are longevity limited by the number of writes it can do before total failure. Having to refresh the data is shortening the lifespan.

I'm sorry, but this just sucks. From my perspective, the increased speed is not worth the loss in long-term reliability. That being said, I can see how manufacturers would want this in our disposable planned obsolescence life style for they get to sell more drives and out compete in...

problem WD PATA hard drive in a desktop pc detected in Win 7, but not in Win XP

It was my understanding that the XP explorer and device manager couldn't see the drive but Disk manager could. Now I know that none of them can see the drive in XP while Win7 has no problems on the same dual booting machine. That tells me that either the chipset drivers are bad or the XP...

problem WD PATA hard drive in a desktop pc detected in Win 7, but not in Win XP

No, Windows XP is a separate OS to Win7. The association between drive letters and the partitions are stored in their respective registries. Since those registries are separate the fact that Win7 had the drive letter as H: means nothing to Windows XP. I've actually gotten a dual boot machine...

Revodrives? What would work with my setup?

It takes me several minutes to boot up my 2008 server. It just has a few roles (domain controller, backup, file server, hypervisor) It doesn't have a fast HD or even a fast processor. Perhaps I ought to go through and see what I can eliminate. Win7 on equivalent HW takes 25-30 seconds.

Cable select cables are ones that pin 28 was cut at the middle plug. You can't really visually see the difference because they are normally cut in the plug. Originally all PATA cables were 40 pin, but to enhance speed they created 80 pin cables with a ground wire in between each data wire but...

problem WD PATA hard drive in a desktop pc detected in Win 7, but not in Win XP

    2TB drives under the duopoly

I would argue that enterprise HD's are a different beast than consumer HD's. I don't think that comparing 18GB 15K RPM Cheetah's to 1.5TB 7200 RPM drives is a fair comparison for they are just too different.

    2TB drives under the duopoly

The problem is that if there are only two choices and you exclude one then you are left with only one and Seagate is a very bad choice in the 1.5-2TB range. I am not happy with WD but my recent experience with Seagate is even worse. My sample size is small but still it is my recent experience.

Desktop pc freezes when using either Win XP or Win 7 OSs

The risk of a bios upgrade is the likelihood of it freezing in the middle. A partially uploaded BIOS is a MB that won't ever boot again unless you have a MB with a dual BIOS (so you can switch to the emergency BIOS) or a socketted BIOS that you can replace by buying another from the...

What is there to say? You're pulling off HW and seeing if it eliminates the freezing. If it does, then it does and no comment is necessary. If it doesn't then it doesn't and also, no comment is necessary. Good luck.

Xeons are too expensive for what one gets. If you need lots of cores, AMD is still a far better bargain. If one needs horse power/core, or watt/core (as long as you don't get a MB that uses FBRAM) then Intel all the way.
