    What the.......

Theres a growing thread at the other place describing why this is an imposibility... looks like ghost just fuds up the partition table/file system so that the OS believes there is more space than there actually is.

    Building a Storage Server Thread

just some tweaking... I was copying files from one computer to the file server through my main PC (all of this over SMB). This is using the onboard NIC included with the SiS 964 SB. Amazingly, The computer I got the files from was on a 100baseT hub which is why I guess I was capped at ~7MB/sec...

    Weird Asus MB problem

why do people up memory voltage? The memory voltage is best left alone. I would guess that this could be a simple error in the BIOS programming or it could be a sign of instability with the chipset when you try to overvolt your RAM...

[NEWS] - Maxtor new boosting software : Maxboost

compare copy operations in DSO with and without smart drive and you'll see a wonder of difference. However winNT and win9x have caches already. I'm sure these work great adn take care of 90% of users out there. But for those that do alot of hard drive I/O or just need more responsive hard...

[NEWS] - Maxtor new boosting software : Maxboost

yeah, my gf kept getting the same error... basically made the software useless. She got this error even though task manager said she had a decent amount of RAM free.... maybe with future versions this will improve.. personally I would have liked that to be a permanently assigned chunk of RAM...

    New HD clips from MS

I'm using a 2gHz athlonXP with geforce3.. some of the high res videos ran ok (not perfectly smooth), and some ran like a slide show.. I thought the lower res ones looked and played fine. Better than your average DVD, but not spectacular on a good screen.

    PC specs for 2004

you didnt include the opticals or the cases... if you want front USB, audio, firewire you'll need a case that offers it. Remember that many DVD-ROM drives cannot read +R media... some probably have a problem with -R media... I have no idea about RW media. About displays.. I see no reason to...

    uh yeah ... boot.ini

yeah, I've modified the boot.ini several times.. going back to late 90's with NT 4.0, it's just kind of odd that the file is gone. And that the machine boots.

    HTML, table question

    HTML, table question

the nowrap function specificly stops wrapping... in other words the point is not to wrap in order to preserve the structure of the text. It works best when placed in the <td> tag. Yes, it's unfortunate that browsers require the space.. I wish there was a more absolute setting

    HTML, table question

wrapping should automatically occur at a space if you specify the table width... use the nowrap attribute to force non wrappage. If it absolutely, positively needs to be wrapped then you have handy and his PHP or java script. Accept no substitutions or imitations.

    [NEWZ] Monster Scuzzy Hard Drive!

no. not for awhile... IBM/Hitachi is the only manufacturer to use a 5 platter design... maxtor, fujitsu and seagate have not maxed out at 4 for several years on all their 10k and 15k lines... the trend is to go down in platters, not back up. It will take greater density to get more capcity...

Machine names on a private network

i think dns2go charges $10/year for DNS... they may have upped their rates.. at one time it was free. Your ISP will almost always cut you a deal on more IPs if you need em. I prefer to go the firewall/gateway route myself (if possible). For instance, I called up road runner and they gladly...

Paint job on Antec AMG case

what I found so interesting myself is that my antec 3700AMB case had such a nice finish (apears very very durable) while some of these newer (and suposedly nicer) cases had such a poor finish. I guess this is either poor quality control or Antec isn't putting as much attention into their paint...

Will there be PCI to PCI-E adapters?

I know there are adapters within PCI express.. for example an x16 to x1 adapter... x16 to x8, etc... even infiniband to PCI-E... but I have not seen a PCI to PCI-E adapter. Drive Spinning Down

you could use the task scheduler of each machine to do something as simple as a dir listing... or perhaps put an empty .bat file (a .bat file must have atleast one command in my expereince in order to run... the ECHO command works fine) on the drive and have task scheduler run it every 10 minutes.
