[NEWS] - New virus exploiting DCOM/RPC security hole

i can see real reason to ignore the automatic updates... several of the updates are known to cause more problems than they fix. I, personally, would not setup auto updates on my own computer.

where to get a good deal on a hard drive?

i totally understand. It's always a good idea to update your hardware if you're diing a clean install anyway... you don't want old device drivers clogging up your system or creating conflicts. it also lets you get a chance to create backups, etc so that you are prepared incase things don't go...

where to get a good deal on a hard drive?

JTR, i've seen 440BX boards only support 8GB drives.. all depends on the mobo maker and how good they are at BIOS updates.

Splash: What are you using for new systems at work?

I really don't see a reason to get anything other than the bare minimum p4 based celeron for office use... The main thing is to get 512MB RAM and not the 128 or 256 that comes with most celeron computers. -windows, along with a couple office apps can be a real hog. low level graphics(TNT class...

    [NEWS] - X-bit reviews Seagate's Momentus 2.5" HDD

    Update on computer mini-network server

Merc, I think it depends on the software player.. some willl play OK on a fast PII or slow PIII. Of course, the video card has to atleast support overlay... motion compensation and stuff like that would be nice as well, but not necessary. I agree that a PCI sound card is probably the best way...

Need some advice on backup-to-disk system

marks last solution seems to have the most redundacy if you ask me... It think it's a great idea. You can survive a failure of all but 1 disk and still maintain a backup of a max of 1 week old. in a RAID 5 array you only have to lose 2 disks for the entire set of data to be hosed.

I've had good results with the built in windows/microsoft fastrack drivers. The promise ones seem to suck lately to be honest. Make sure you have the newest BIOS for your motherboard (sot hat your fastrack BIOS is up to date) and see if win2k has drivers that support the fastrack by...
