Processor or Fan; Chicken or Egg.

do you feel that the places you ordered from and products manufacturer's did a good job with customer service? I would personally be upset over $60 on a new rig... that's probably about 10% of the cost of a complete new box. All because of a poorly made fan... I was disapointed with mwave.. I...

Intel Pro/1000 MT - Server vs Desktop?

oh, btw, Mark... I'm assuming that's NT backup because I usually get atleast 6MB using onboard NICs... not pegging the CPU when doing SMB transfers... I am assuming your CPU us high because NTBackup is performing some type of compression. While running disk defrag at the moment I got 5MB/sec...

Intel Pro/1000 MT - Server vs Desktop?

wow, that intel really shines... low CPU usage and higher transfer rates... i wonder if that was the server or the workstation version in those graphs.

yes, this is the famed knoppix that Coug has pushed so hard. so i didn't even have to install linux to get this working... just pop a CD in the drive.. turn on the computer, mount the HDD as read/write(mount /dev/hda1) and navigate to my adobe/ms word/whatever installation directory and run the...

DIVX is a video codec, it compreses video.. it is not a file format. It is a video stream format... and even then it is only 1 version of the mpg4 video stream format. You can use DIVX in the AVI format, which will certainly accept AC3 sound or other multi track high quality audio to be...

[NEWS] - Raptors in RAID articles

very true, in both server and desktop roles. the 1st thing that comes to mind is someone with alot of junk installed... no matter how many I/O's their disk can provide it will still be sluggish compared to a clean system. Using faster drives will only help reduce the symptoms of the junk.

That's a good point. I wonder if the high pressure design makes it any more effective of if it's possible to make an equally effective cooler using a low pressure design while being quieter.

jtr, not everyone has the skills that you posess. There are lots of people that seem to have a hard time at the current 55-70 limits. Good choice for cheap monitor or LCD...

There's also the point about refresh rate.. running in analog mode you'll notice that running most LCDs at 70Hz is blurry, while running at 60Hz sharpens things up alot. This only applies to analog of course.
