The Widget Thread (v. Why don't we have one already)

That's okay I just realized the glaring typo in the thread title. It was supposed to ask why we didn't have one already.

The Widget Thread (v. Why don't we have one already)

How is there not a widget thread? So, what are some of your favorite widgets that you're using on your Android devices? I'd start, but I've only got a few hours of Android experience under my belt and I'm still exploring the wonderful world of widgets.

I'm sure that's very much true. I'd love a large desktop monitor with 300ppi though. :mrgrn:

I want to buy a new car

I don't think that's likely the cause (out gassing). UV exposure has probably damaged the clear coat causing it to peel.

I want to buy a new car

You don't have to remove the old paint. You just need to sand it pretty smooth to promote adhesion and remove any loose / flaking chunks of clear coat / paint. Given the state of paint you're describing plasti-dip probably isn't the right product. I'd suggest looking at this. There are lots...

I decided to dip my foot into the world of tablets and Android with a 32GB Nexus 7 (2013). I don't know what I'm going to use it for, but I'm pretty sure I can find something.

SuperSSpeed S301 Hyper Gold is the only one I know of.

SSDs - State of the Product?

Not that I'm aware of. AFAIK, you can't refresh the charge level in a cell. You can only write an erased cell. So, you could copy something to RAM, erase the flash, and write it back, but that would also induce wear. Very good SLC flash can have 20+ years of retention even after it's been...

SSDs - State of the Product?

Not exactly. A flash cell is a very tricky animal. It's a very analog process. It stores charge and the charge slowly leaks out. As the charge leaks, the voltage of the cell drops and eventually you can't tell a one charge level from another. The charge always leaks. It's just a matter of...

SSDs - State of the Product?

In terms of read write cycles and data retention, it's not as good as SLC. TLC takes it a step further into la-la land. Where reliability / durability matters, like in an car's engine controller, body computer, cluster, etc in a car it's all SLC flash. That's not a coincidence.

I want to buy a new car

Yes, I'm aware of it. I noticed it never made it to production. I also wouldn't consider a prototype car made in the 1960's to be representative of a typical modern car.

Why not? It wasn't very useful on Sandy Bridge or Ivy Bridge.

    New monster build

Prior non K CPUs of Sandy Bridge / Ivy Bridge allowed you to change the multiplier up to 4 steps higher. That means you could take a 3.0gHz chip to 3.4gHz. With Haswell, Intel got rid of that.
  24. S

    New monster build

Uh... Good luck with that. If you want to overclock you buy a K chip.

  27. S

I want to buy a new car

Maybe I'm missing something. Fuel economy is a function of the amount of fuel burnt. In general a 400HP V8 will burn the same amount of fuel as a 400HP I4 with a turbo when they're both making 400HP. The C7 Corvette gets between 28 and 30MPG highway depending on the mode of the car. Last time...

I want to buy a new car

The modern pushrod engine dates back to 1949. The overhead cam dates back to before World War I. Further, the power to weight and power to size ratio of the modern GM pushrod V-8 is pretty much unrivaled.

It will probably be a wash when it costs about the same amount as the deductible.
