Non-subscription MS Office blocks all legacy Windows

Thanks, Chewy, maybe I'll take another look at T-bird. At work, we were "upgraded" from Office/Outlook to Gsuite/Gmail. (G-not-so-Suite ;)) It has pop-up reminders, but they only show in the lower right corner of a Gmail web session. It's sooo nice to have reminders pop up in a new window...

I use Evolution in Ubuntu, because I had read that Thunderbird does not have a well-integrated calendar function (Emailed invites that are accepted are added to the calendar, and calendar appointments can have pop-up alerts before the appointed date/time, which can be delayed to repeat at a...

    Audio from Display

As it happens, my Dell s2415H has speakers, and when I checked, it also has an output jack that works with my JVC Gumy. I believe plugging in those earbuds cuts off the monitor's speakers, but I can't be positive because the audio output from this PC goes through a subwoofer that was still...

Then that was terrible, Lunar. Almost a decade ago, when I was laid off, I at least got a decent severance package to "tide me over". A few years later, my wife took the "offer she couldn't refuse", to retire early from her job, and got a minimal, better-than-nothing severance package. The...

4k video playback: What do you really need?

That. Spoken as an "old fogie" whose eyes and ears are going somewhat fast. Streaming TV in 4K (+HDR?) may be "good enough" for my vision. And I'm a fan of classic music (jazz, blues, rock (&roll), Motown, hip-hop, etc.), but not classical music, so 95% coverage may be adequate to convey the...

It's still moderately bad in the SF bay area and beyond. And rain in the areas that had major fires could cause dangerous mud slides, a double disaster.
