    Unusual alternative to workstation-grade laptop

This last trip had me quite frustrated at the lack of performance on my Lenovo W540. It is a very high-spec unit, but left me waiting far too much. Specs as follows: i7-4900MQ (4 cores @ 2.8GHz) 16GB RAM 2x 120GB SSDs in RAID0 Quadro K2100M 2880x1620@60 display Intel Wireless (AC) 7260...

Unless you are using it as a monitor, 4k is completely unnecessary. For me, 40% of the YouTube channels I subscribe to are now offering 4k streams making a bit of a case.

I want to buy a new car

It is small compared to some, but it is packaged very efficiently. The ratio of internal space/external dimensions is so much better than a crown vic or other full-size car. The Audi A3 I've been driving is basically a fancy Golf and I'm rarely wanting for space. For the vacation the car fit 3...

It can be, we have no rules about actual identities. Some are more open (me) some are less so (Lunar). I think those are the two extremes, actually.

    problem Toshiba laptop's touchpad malfunction

I'd agree that it is most likely, but I use three different criteria for deciding which troubleshooting step to try next. 1. Likelyhood 2. Difficulty 3. Possibility of repair An OS issue is less likely, but it is easy to check and easy to repair if it turns out to be the case. The more likely...

Absolutely, though I doubt it will make it here. Also, a more common model is more likely to have a strong performance aftermarket. I'm really hooked on having crazy amounts of power at this point.

    problem Toshiba laptop's touchpad malfunction

My first step would be to confirm that it is a hardware (rather than software) thing. Probably the easiest way to do this is boot to a Linux CD. I'm leaning towards hardware, but this is a pretty painless way to check things out.

I'm sure there is some statistical curve that describes it, but the main point is that in an SLR camera physical things move every time you take a picture and moving things have a limited life cycle. The biggest thing to keep in mind is the number of shutter actuations your camera is rated for before a costly repair. This is how my 20D died, and it was better to replace the camera than do the repair on an older unit. All of my time lapses have been 1 second/shot. I'd imagine I took 15k...
