Looking at having them assemble it for me. They've quoted an acceptable price for assembly, but have left the packaging/shipping to me (apparently they don't want to deal with it). Looking for options local to them (65695 US Highway 33, Goshen, IN, 46526).

That can't be right. I glanced through the manual, and I'm thinking 4-6 hours is way more likely if you have the tools available and plenty of space. I am way more interested in printing metal, but this way I can prototype quickly before having someone else print from metal.

New inexpensive build - how did I do?

I'd consider moving the computer end of the cable into the chassis using a grommet and internal header. Make it look integrated.

Indeed. Which is why this thing is fully automated. Load up the file and walk away.

Router recommendations for network partitioning (and dual-WAN)?

Interesting idea. I suppose even on the wired side I could just use vlans to keep things separate; single DHCP server handing out into all the vlans, shared resources a member of all the vlans. Once again we are back to a smart switch and a more basic router.

    3D Printers

I did a 3D Scanner thread a while ago that touched on printing, but they really are different things. I'm considering a Rostock MAX v2 3D printer. Most kinds of plastic are supported (ABS requires the printer bed to be heated to maintain directional accuracy) and the print size is appreciable...

Router recommendations for network partitioning (and dual-WAN)?

I don't plan on running 16 wireless routers, they can all play in the same wireless box.

Router recommendations for network partitioning (and dual-WAN)?

A bunch of wireless routers offer "Isolate WLAN" as a switch out of the box. Wireless clients can see the internet and each other but nothing else. This isn't ideal, but trying for better with wireless is like putting a really good lock on a glass door...

Router recommendations for network partitioning (and dual-WAN)?

I'm pretty sure the MikroTik with the stock WebFig software will do it. I'm running their top-end 1100 AH X2 at home, and it will let me add a unique DHCP server on every port if I like. The thing is crazy powerful and flexible. The downside is that it took me 2 hours to configure the thing to...

Router recommendations for network partitioning (and dual-WAN)?

Thanks Chewy. I think the scale of the implementation is smaller than you realize. Most of these "tenants" are single machines. The port (or Wifi) connection they get from me needs to already hand out DHCP for a plug'n'play experience. My understanding is that your suggestion would work from a...

Router recommendations for network partitioning (and dual-WAN)?

Helping a friend put together some numbers on building out a co-working space. One of the challenges is making a network where all the wired ports have access to the internet and shared resources, but not each other. I also plan on having two internet connections for reliability and speed. With...

Brought the kid into work this evening so I could finish some things. She likes to point at out the things she has words for and name them. The minis I buy now (Lenovo M series tiny) don't have one, but I know what you are talking about. Is there a part number you can Google? Is it more than just a 3.5" speaker with the right cable connector?

Synology share access via IP address

This is (AFAIK) a 6-year+ issue with KM that has been pounded about on their forum for at least that long. I've sent the controller to go yell at them, but I do not consider it worthwhile. Synology has an e-mail from me, but haven't yet received a response. They do have statics, and a second...

Synology share access via IP address

No errors on either. It prompts for a password, doesn't accept any, and I close the window. Not sure what errors I should be expecting. The problem exists from any source on the network. I don't think any sharing would work without CIFS enabled? I have tried domain/username and...

Synology share access via IP address

I've rejoined to the domain without luck. Pinging server_name returns the correct IP. The DHCP reservation was updated with the new machines MAC, and the new machine picked up the IP automatically, so that is working correctly. Peculiar indeed. Thanks for the assistance! Glad to know it wasn't...

Synology share access via IP address

Upgraded a site from a desktop 8-bay unit with an Atom CPU to a 10-bay rackmount unit with a 3.1Ghz i3 (much faster performance of course). Same IP, same server name, joined to the domain in the same way. With the previous unit, I could access a share with either the IP address (//192.168.0.3)...

    4k TVs and Monitors

The explaining was pretty fast. The bar I'm remodeling is part of a local country club that he just purchased. I didn't get in as much trouble as all the employees loitering in the lobby instead of working.

    4k TVs and Monitors

Interesting. I've had the opposite problem. Took delivery of 6 65" TVs for a bar I'm remodeling. No storage space at the club, so I took delivery at my office. They insisted that they unpack all of them (despite no visible damage on the box) and fire them up. Of course, when I have the wall of...

Having previously owned one of those units, I can say that it isn't good enough to do what you would expect. Establishing a 4k signal from any source is difficult, configuring lower resolutions to use the entire screen is impossible.

    Interior LED lighting

CFL bulbs in general are very finicky. If your motion sensor even twitched away from full brightness as part of the relay many CFLs wouldn't work at all. As Time said, a dimmable bulb/light source might be needed. I'm a big fan of LED lighting panels. The shadows are soft and the light itself...

The most critical moment is when you decide to leave the left edge and head for the second apex. You develop a feel for it, but references are few and far between. Well, the no-brainer is "anyone but them". I'd be tempted to go with the largest company around, but that isn't really a guarantee of anything.
