    Interior LED lighting

I had a long, nicely worded post listing the benefits, but it was eaten and I got annoyed. The highlights: 1. Light gets everywhere, including the places you want it, without having to fuss. 2. Light is flexible, waterproof, and rubbery. Let it dangle from the hood through the engine bay to the...

    Vulnerabilities: Synology, SuperMicro Motherboards

I'm sure everyone here knows, but I'll reiterate because it deserves it. Don't expose anything to the internet. System complexity and the number of people looking for exploits have effectively made everything vulnerable by an automated process. Have a firewall that blocks all unsolicited...

Nah, a buddy was running the BBQ and gave her tongs to play with. She then proceeded to start running near all the cars swinging them around. I kept her safely clear, but may have freaked a few AMG people out.

    For Sale: Dual-Xeon Workstation

It will be, but I've decided to hold onto it. Just building out a ridiculous workstation for the house. My Solidworks renders are taking 4+ hours on an OC'd 4960X, so it isn't completely unjustified. The only question is would you rather have a pair of Titans or a pair of 290X in your design...

    Android phones: Tips, tricks?

I think making the smartphone the brain and media source would be the most flexible/powerful, unless you want to tie in with Plex somehow? If RDC was quick enough to support video, it might be ideal for an installation. If seamless audio transitions are important (I'd argue they are), all...

    Android phones: Tips, tricks?

I think the goal of "play the audio I've chosen on my phone everywhere I go, and only where I am" is a fantastic idea. I just don't know how to get the localization good enough (NFC? RFID?) and keep the audio in sync (and approximately the same volume) from one system to another. If you had a...

    Android phones: Tips, tricks?

Syncing is the hardest part of this I'd think. I just have TOSLink running into all the amps in the different rooms and tune them in and out manually. Having auto input switching based on location information might be a more useful solution.

Yeah, that is my issue as well. It did really well virtualizing 20+ servers and 20+ workstations for quite a while without breaking a sweat. And in that time, it payed for itself quite handily. But now I have this monster just sitting here going to waste. Not ignored, but quietly noted ;)

    NaCL Performance?

Couldn't find my way to a console, but I found the "System Monitor", which is only showing 32 CPUs. But at least they all seem to be near 100%. Oban 14 is my new favorite. Better (IMHO) than even the crazy-expensive stuff my father-in-law brought.

    NaCL Performance?

Breaking in a new server. I've assigned 40 1.7Ghz cores to the NaCL client. A 2981 takes about 3 minutes. Is this ok? This is in an Ubuntu VM under ESXi, and I have no idea where to find a "task manager" type application to view system utilization.

1-3 I'm confident aren't issues. I've never heard of Ultimate Defrag, but if it is just doing its job it shouldn't be an issue. Just a reminder to not defrag SSDs, completely unnecessary and added wear. Moving all these things to weekly (hell, quarterly) will save you time, save wear on your...
