I hate troubleshooting DirecTV splitters. Particularly in systems with 20+ receivers. Edit: The grey cable near the top is a 150A power line. The black 2" pipe near the bottom is a gas line. The array of splitters is one of three banks in the house (20,000+ sq.ft.)

A friend got to use my EagTac MX25L3 last night was was impressed. He is looking for something larger to replace his 3-D Cell Maglite. Doesn't need more performance, but is hoping for longer battery life. The light will live in his truck, so some kind of wired trickle-charger would be awesome...

    Windows 8 install tricks

I've already done a local install for the server, but the boss would like to be able to run reports for both the POS (both sites) and QB side from her desk. Previously I had a copy of QB installed on the server at each location that she would remote into, but now it is all being consolidated...

    Folding@Home

Thanks! I haven't been to my office in nearly two weeks. Most of my time has been at a facility 20 miles the other direction from my house. I do run into the building that contains my office to put out fires, but never long enough to sit down at my computer. I'll get it going again now.

Sorry to hear that. The only good news I can see is that, if all your health issue posts so far were accurate, you'd be dead 2 or 3 times already. May this one also fail to kill you ;)

You, too huh? ;) I'm in the middle of switching to the new version at a couple sites and tying in with the new version of QB Enterprise. Hopefully it will play well enough with the VPN that I can run an instance of QB POS at the admin office and not need to install QB out at the site (like I...

    Cold

Interesting. I know I had to deal with some code stuff and install additional vents when I closed some off during the remodel. I'll need to read though that more carefully when I don't have a baby on my lap, but it is interesting how they say the humidity issue is better without the vents? None...

My boss was running an app called "Note Everything" until recently. One of the advantages was that it was supposed to backup to Google Docs. A few months ago he did a firmware upgrade on his phone and it lost the data on the phone and...no backup! I'm looking for an app that does roughly the...

I just ordered a new monster rig from Amazon, making sure that all the items were prime eligible. I didn't pay attention to who was selling the item, so long as they would ship same-day with 2-day shipping. The first box to arrive was a Newegg box. If they are already offering their products...

    Some work on my A3

Might be the same block, APR claims 400hp at the crank for their stage III kit. The engine I drool over is the 2.5l I-5 that the RS3 used to have (mentioned in your article). That thing has tons of potential.

In the 3 series Audi, they haven't offered an S or RS version in the US in a long time (ever?). I really like the smaller car, but more importantly I love hatchbacks. Not just the practicality, but the look. Audi doesn't even offer a hatchback 3 in the US anymore. But even if they did offer an...

I was able to not pay that price ;) And any performance above the standard battery is secondary to me. The goal is to shave as much weight as possible from the car (~35 pounds from the front of the car in this case), bonus points if it is from the front or top, double bonus points if it is...

    AVG kills Crossloop

It's domino time, the rest of the free service-based systems should disappear soon. This makes sense considering services cost money. I also believe that none of the non-service-based systems are easy/reliable enough to deploy. They are too sensitive to changing IPs/Firewall settings/etc.

Going below freezing brings all kinds of trouble; I wouldn't consider it viable for 24/7/365 operation.
