I don't believe that any of these are worth pursuing. Self-driving cars will be here soon enough, and most will simply choose to press the button and go back to texting. I'm sure part of the liability trade-off the govt. will offer will be self-driving cars that constantly report their speed and...
It is, much lower than many of the other AV systems out there. Particularly if you avoid their holistic "Smart Security" product. But it still consumes resources (I don't know how it could do the job otherwise). And on systems that really should have been replaced ages ago (P4? AMD Athlon...
My understanding is that if you are a stickler for OSS-only installs, AMD is the better option. But if you are willing to hold your nose and install a non-OSS blob nVidia will give you the better experience.
NOD32 is my AV of choice, but it doesn't play well on systems that are already behind the curve. Slow drives and a single-core CPU mean that NOD32 will delay system loading. Of course, you could say that systems that are already that far gone can expect delays (boot times in excess of a minute...
I went back and replayed Skyrim. Now have a level-60 badass and not being challenged much. Stopped with the bow for the most part and just run around with a badass dagger and shouts. Fun. Pretty. Looking forward to the next one.
The Plex server installed on my Synology box worked perfectly, so long as you didn't ask it's poor CPU to do anything it couldn't. But now I want to transcode in realtime from HD to my phone.
I installed the latest version of Plex Media Server on my workstation, and when I attempt to add a...
Got an e-mail from Amazon:
So something was shipping from Amazon and listed as Prime with no additional notes, and it won't be available for 5 weeks? Thanks, Amazon.
I wouldn't be so annoyed, but this is the first time they've done this crap.
Yup. DVI to HDMI or HDMI to Receiver to HDMI. Both worked, but had sync issues with cables longer than 3'. There were also scaling issues unless the refresh rate was specified as higher than 30Hz, which also caused sync issues even with shorter cables. Both were true with either the on-board...
Microsoft coming out with a series of phones that have hard keyboards would make sense I think. The people that are buying MS phones are the ones completely tied to MS products and services. Those people are also slow to adopt new technologies, or they wouldn't be there in the first place. So...
If it is that important, having two is clearly necessary. Once you have dozens, the actual number of spares on hand becomes a function of the time to get new parts vs. failure rate.
My current backup plan at work includes 3 Synology boxes. Two right next to each other on the same switch, and one 1km away on the other end of a 1Gbps fiber link. The production box syncs in near real-time with the one next to it, and that batches out to the remote a couple times a day. That...
For the record, Classic Shell is now good enough that I don't bother with Start8. It used to be, but I don't think Start8 is worth the premium anymore.
I agree with nearly everything Tannin said, but would argue that with some customization 8 with Classic Shell/Start8 is the best MS-based UI available. Making it look like XP/7 while running much faster is an obvious win. And this makes it even more embarrassing for them. There were places where...
Quite. When people get in the car I tell them what the car weighs and how much power it has, then do the launch control thing. They are amazed.
One of the guys has spent the last decade and six figures building a 10-second car. When I started explaining how AWD and dual clutch could get him...
The guy with the office next to mine looked at them and said "man, you're gonna get cancer or something..."
8" speakers 18" away is a bit nuts, but it sounds so good. Not sure the sub is really contributing anything.
The latest version of PartedMagic on Hiren's boot CD is amazing. It even has Firefox with the homepage set to Google search their support docs. Incredible.
What sort of capacity requirements are you looking at? RAID1 is great, RAID5 not so much. SSD is awesome if you can afford it, particularly for things like Exchange.
Two arrays probably will be the best option, SSDs in RAID1 for the OS, Exchange, BES, etc. and a RAID10 of 3-4TB drives for data...
I knew they were going to be larger, but this caught me a bit by surprise. That is a 30" monitor.
Sounds amazing so far, I'll know more after 5pm when I can open them up a bit. I am completely shocked at how clear they are at very, very low listening levels.
All 0 of them? That is pretty awesome. I wonder if logging in to my Win8 machine using that account would automatically uninstall all the apps. That would be a very neat trick.
I've been tempted to put Cyanogen 10.1 on my Galaxy S4 (Verizon) but have hesitated to make such major changes to such an expensive and necessary piece of my life without first knowing anyone else that has done it successfully. Anyone here take the plunge?
Specifically version 11 that shipped in the Vista era around 2007. It is the latest version supported by VMWare's vCenter Converter for P2V in situations where it can't pull from the live machine. Apparently VMWare also offers a boot CD that can do the conversion offline, but I can't get it...
Not here. Not that I don't like the theory, but most of the options are commercial packages that end with "trust us...until there is a warrant" which frankly isn't good enough to bother with these days.
I hate the USB-based port replicators because they aren't port replicators. They have a completely separate NIC, sound card, video card, etc. This means that IP addresses, resolutions, and audio output preferences are not carried across.
