Oh they closed when the 6 feet came. Everything closed. The place was like a bomb hit it. Robbers went on a rampage (in a country with almost no crime) because the police didn't have any proper vehicles to get to the scene in :mrgrn: But the anyway it was Christmas so schools were closed...

With me, not once. I remember several times the schoolbus got stuck in snow, broke down or whatever but we always ended up reaching school (albeit late). Anyway, that was in Greece and you almost never get more than 5 inches of snow over there, except for this past Christmas when there was...

    Moderator #3: call for nominations

I'd gratefully do it, but unfortunately from this Saturday till early September I won't be online (or at the computer) for more than a few minutes a day. Unless you don't mind

They never did though, did they? Those matchbox ones were amazing weren't they. You and all your friends could throw them out of the window, step on them, set fire to them (yes I did) and they still worked. The HotWheels ones that you could put in warm water and they turned red, cold...

    NRG passed his A+... :)

True... I cannot, for example, imagine trying to teach this stuff to my Dad. He'd find it amazingly difficult. But then again, if you're truly interested in computers you'll know it anyway from experience. On the other hand, people who know the material through experience of working with...

Stability also depends on what software you install. Video Codecs can sometimes be destructive too (explorer can crash if you have the preview pane on the left switched on). Some times I install Windows (most of the time thats when I get a new mobo) and after a couple of weeks various...

Just like those who modify cars to the very extreme, they surely can't drive those every day without overhauling the engine every two minutes but hey, if they can why not?

    intel P4 @ 3675MHz!

Pretty useless for a PC but for those who have time and money in their hands it cool. I know I would if I had the time & money. Sure beats snorting coke up ones nose as more and more people seem to be doing. :mrgrn:

Have you calculated the electricity costs for all those machines? :o It was bad enough last week with the queen's 50 years celebration - banks closed and post offices too (I had some stuff to send and had to go to the bank so that got on my nerves). around 1 million or more people gathered...

    Stanford's F@h servers suck... :(

Have you seen Berkeley's Seti servers? Stanford's are great in comparison. If you can connect to Berkeley on weekdays you can cut my private parts off... well, it was like that while I was running Seti anyway. There should be a caching program for Genome... unfortunately Seti has the most GUIs...

Just start two processes, set one to idle priority and the other to normal/high. The idle one will do nothing till the medium/high one is finished. Then it will start.

New Shuttle "shoe box" computers will feature AGP

Hmmm, I'm professor now? OK.. Well, I did have for a short time, a P4 1.8@2.5 and it was around 15 minutes per unit faster than my Athlon XP1800 at 1667 (1533@1667). Obviously clock for clock the XP was faster, but at the time, XP1800 and NW1800 were approximately the same price ($10 less for...

OK, this is pathetic, I shall now ask my flatmate to run Folding for £10 a day on his celeron 1.2. This is dumb. I have no network cable for the P3 system so it remains inactive. Actually it still has the old genome program.

My thoughts on the Zalman Flower

Yes the fan is huge. I have a similar metal papst fan dating back to the early eighties, I took that out of a NCR PC some years ago. Looks and feels much more solid than the new plastic ones but its so heavy... very quiet too, and it will work all day at 30v (5-16v operating voltage, it says on...
