Seagate does not have a News Thread

I remember a story about IBM back in the day having (by far) the fastest drive. Once a competitor got close they just added a second read head on the other side of the platter and held everyone off quite a bit longer. It would be interesting to have a CD/DVD drive that simply sucked the entire...

Yup, down to 3500g before that started to recover. And the night under the tanning lights was indeed a rough one; I had to hold her hands the whole time to stop her from screaming (4 hours at a time, my fingernails went blue). But now we are home and all is well. Family is swarming, and taking...

All the decent pictures are on the DSLR and will have to wait for us to get home. Jaundice and weight loss issues have us in the hospital for our 5th day, and the sleep tally is now about 10 in the last 100, with the longest single stint being 90 minutes nearly continuous this morning. In the...

What I'm putting together now is a fan to force air through the doorway into the rest of the zone. Hopefully I can manage to get closer to the average and trigger the AC. My other plan was to plumb a radiator on the outside of the wall and watercool the PC. Haven't gotten that OK'd by the boss yet.

Mainly due to the brain-dead HVAC system at work. I currently have a half-dozen servers in my office doing about 450W. My machine while folding pulls another 780W. My office doesn't hit equilibrium until past 100F with that load, and F@H crashes before then.

    Wide format multifunction laser?

Inkjet is fine for smaller-volume operations, but our average day is 100+ 24"x36" sheets (6000+ ft/month). The cost of ink alone would kill us, and few of the inkjet machines would last long at that rate. Plus they aren't fast enough.

SSDs - State of the Product?

I'd change that to: If your desktop has one drive, you need a second drive to keep a backup. I don't see any of the other things you mentioned as a "need" or even with strong supporting evidence on modern SSDs with their high wear ratings.

question Is keeping an AC powered laptop in sleep mode when not using it, a harmful practice?

The occasional restart isn't a bad idea. Set the sleep timer and occasionally (weekly?) tell it to restart and walk away. When it comes back up it will go to sleep.
