    Cycling

Rode the track yesterday. The hill before the corkscrew is ~15% grade...utterly ridiculous. If you try to spin it out while sitting down the front wheel keeps hopping, if you do it standing up and don't keep the cadence high enough you roll backwards. The race of the evening was a time trial...

Reasonable drive configuration for an entry level file server

My basic fileservers have a single drive for OS+Data with Acronis used to backup the whole thing to the Boss' client machine. That folder is then synced somehow to the boss' house (via VPN if possible, sneakernet if not)

48V DC LED wiring for a new build; XM-Ls, etc.

I intend to. But we were moving in and I needed a quick and dirty fix. Last I talked to him he was working on LED bike lights. I think it was in a thread around here somewhere. Nope. When I realized that the heater in the house wasn't usable, and that we didn't have the money to install the...

Glass Gremlins v. windshield chip repair

Never seen them here, either. Here it is just bums lying about their car breaking down or not having money for gas. I do actually require the services of a glass chip repair guy, but I've been too lazy to bother. The day I bought my car I got a chip on the drive home. Another happened last week...

48V DC LED wiring for a new build; XM-Ls, etc.

    1. Welcome to StorageForum! 2. Your project sounds fascinating. Not unlike something that I was trying to do while remodeling a while ago. (Didn't do it due to time constraints, but still interested) 3. JTR is the guy around here who knows this stuff, but I haven't seen him in a while. Last I...

Mine refers to it as "your storage guys". Forum is too technical a term. Then again, mine also has no issue with strippers. But I did have to promise to take her the next time I end up at a strip club.

    Some work on my A3

Thanks for that. I never plan to track the car, and as far as a single stop from 130mph goes, even the stock are fine. Just looking for something light. A 5+lb weight savings would be worth consideration.

I have no idea how much any of these kits weight. I'm just having a hard time getting my mind around the thought that a bigger set of brakes would weigh less.

    Some work on my A3

I'm old enough to like the sound deadening on my daily driver, thanks ;) I do intend to do some engine mods after the warranty is gone (16k miles and counting), but in the meantime I would like to keep some kind of steady progress. Removing weight (especially unsprung weight) just seems to be...

question How do people buy music these days?

I listen to a lot of public radio, but it isn't like they don't have commercials. Sure they have less, but the time they spend announcing sponsors or asking for donations (don't get me started on pledge drives) is basically a commercial. In this world of digital internet stuff you would think...

question How do people buy music these days?

Hardly. Before using Pandora, I hadn't purchased any music in many years. I started using their free service when it came out, and started liking what they recommended so much that I bought it (Amazon MP3). When they limited their free service to 40 hours a year I went onto their paid service...

No, I wish I could. If I could get the deal Stereodude got I would try, but it would still be a mistake financially. I've got another 1200mi before my next service, and about that long on my current set of Conti DW. When I take it in for the service I'll switch to the F14s (possibly with that...

Your home Stereo/sound system/s? What did you buy, how much, and why did you buy it?

Yeah, plus a dozen pairs of 3D shutter glasses at $100 each. And the fiber optic HDMI cable. And the rest of it. I could probably have paid cash for my dream Audi for the cost of just the system upgrade.

Just got the DLA-RS65 fully set up, it is an amazing unit. Amazingly bright, but the big kicker is the contrast ratio (120,000:1), the blacks on the...
