    Areca

Yup. Both as a matter of fact. But all those drives worked fine in 3Ware, Adaptec, and other controllers. Fair enough they weren't in the HCL, but I would argue 3Ware is up there in the RAID card hierarchy as well and works just fine.

    Areca

I've had 3 3Ware RAID cards and one Areca over the years. The Areca kept balking at drives. Sure they weren't on the HCL, but 3Ware never had that issue.

Reducing unsprung weight to get a better ride was my goal. If I'm going to swap the wheels, I would want to do it immediately to preserve the resale of the OEMs. Maybe one of you would want them for snow tires.

I honestly want a sleeper, and am considering having all the badges removed except the rings front and back. What are people's thoughts on the factory wheels? Are they light enough? Are there significant performance gains to be had?

Thanks Howell, I'd avoided the pressure washer already because I didn't know how the carbon fiber would take it. But specifically the crevice between the fork and the frame has me worried about gunk in there. Any specific dry lube you would recommend?

I'm not sure about you guys, but I use the GPS in two ways: 1. Just keep the moving map up to refresh my memory (90% of the time) 2. Program an address before I leave for some long road trip to some place I've never been (once a week if that). To access mode 1 requires one button press.

    Moving Windows 7

Like previous windows versions, it really likes some fundamental hardware to at least be the same type. A repair install is the best way if it works for you, but I don't do this kind of thing because of all the headaches it usually causes. I would try installing the drivers for the new hardware...

Thailand Flooding Threatens Hard Drive Supply

In my experience HDD speed only impacts boot time and AV scans if you have enough RAM in Win7 for normal users. Anything above my bare-bones boxes get an SSD anyway.

Looks like the cheapest voice plan combined with 5GB of data and their weak-ass insurance ($200 deductible? WTF?) would run nearly $100/mo. Have to think about that.

    question Which Tablets

Compared to the 3.1" 480x320 screen on my current phone, I would be loving that. Bluetooth headsets are the only BT device that seems to work well, keyboards/mice and just about anything else suck. So long as a phone can fit in my pocket I don't see a problem.

    question Which Tablets

Some of these apps push tablets more than most. My mapping/navigation program has 10GB+ of imagery stored locally that is tiled and overlayed, and can be infinitely scrolled and zoomed. Add to that the real-time GPS calculations and plotting, even real-time weather if you have an internet...

Is there a current hardcore in the Android tablet space, either out now or out soon? I have a ThinkPad Tablet, but it is only 1280x800 with a Tegra2. These will be used for navigation and secondary tasks on aircraft, so the price is not a significant factor.

This is 2008R2 Standard, with the "File Server" and "Indexing" roles added. I plan to also make it an iSCSI target for more VMWare foolery. Edit: If that caching works with the VMs it could finally get me off my SSD DAS thing.

    Supermicro deal on Ebay

It seems MS Server 2k8 is also happy using all the RAM it has as cache. Even though the RAID5 array I'm writing to is only capable of 35MB/s, the transfer goes at 117MB/s up to the biggest files I have kicking around (~30GB). The server has 32GB of RAM and GbE.
