Too late. :) The heatpipe unit that ships with the X6 is actually very good. I fired up the Phenom with the stock all aluminium unit that shipped with the single & dual core Athlon 64's, and after everything was installed, fired up a single instance of F@H. After about 15 minutes, the temp...

You can't ignore manufacturing cost, because a higher pixel density (resolution) is inherently more expensive--defect density, bell curves etc. More pixels, more chance of defects. The manufacturers are driven to minimise BOM costs. That measn no high res displays for you. You can buy 'em...

Fix for problems with FAH client on latest Ubuntu distro.

Kubuntu--KDE. With previous versions, changing system settings, such as enabling or disabling proprietary hardware drivers (I like using the Radeon proprietary) has been a snap. Even the jump to KDE 4 didn't phase me. But I can't for the life of me find a way to change it in 10.04. Yep, the...

With all due respect. 1. Granted, large pixel count (for arguments sake, by this I mean > Full HD) are purchasable, but only for an inflated cost. 2. The manufacturers have gradually changed aspect ratios, from 4:3 -> 5:4 -> 16:10 to 16:9. There is where slick marketing has come into play...

Hmm. Just an update, might have to merge this thread with the other one... I thought the bottleneck was processor in the SiS 630 system, so I upped it to a 933 (Instead of 733), and that made zilch/zero/nada difference. So I stuck with the Athlon II 250, but that seemed overkill. On a whim...

I can actually see the PCI bus as being the performance limiter on this. Both a PCI gigabit NIC, and the PCI SATA controller are on it. I might try to compare this with something more modern with PCI-e connected gigabit and SATA to see how much throughput you lose.
