None of the Scythe coolers since the Ninja has had the correct fin spacing. More than 2mm between fins allows very low pressure airflow to make it through. Surface area is not the problem.
My wife's car has the GPS and other goodies, it includes a pair of SD slots for MP3 behind the Nav screen. Mine, however, doesn't. I've been playing with the idea of replacing the stereo with a mounted tablet, but the only ones that would allow me to use the steering wheel controls for music...
The bank of offices where I am is on a single zone. It wraps a corner of the building, with my office in the sun (large windows) while the thermostat is on the shady side in the hallway. It is a LEED building, so the windows don't open and the thermostat cannot be bypassed.
That is a nice looking board. Not on Newegg yet, and I would need to wait for another HPC project to justify one. None of my clients have enough VM load to even use half that.
Too bad it doesn't pass on the control scheme as well. I'll end up getting an iThing for the car because it integrates with the steering wheel controls.
I find this guy's work to be amazing. It doesn't hurt that he lives in the most beautiful place I've ever been; Pokhara, Nepal.
Shame they are such low resolution images, there seems like there could be so much more in there.
Edit: Here is his website.
I've gotten all our vendors to commit to a timetable for a fully functional web-interface client that does not require .NET. I wish I had also specified no Flash, but HTML5 wasn't out yet.
Some have betas or proof of concepts out now, one is in the "5 years out" camp and we may need to dump...
I think the proprietary software is the main hinge point. I'm doing my best to get our company off proprietary stuff and onto the web. Of course, once I succeed, I will be going to Linux and not Windows 8 ;)
I use Newegg to get the gear picked out; they have a fairly comprehensive selection, and their search tools are fantastic. Once I have the parts list, I look elsewhere.
For the video card I'll probably go with the NVS, as Aero and whatever 8 has will likely use a bit of GPU power.
I actually resorted to known-good monitors connected to every port on the motherboard and any expansion cards just in case. I didn't see the maintenance pins on the board, but I'll try that tomorrow when I get back to work.
I should have mentioned I've tried different monitors and cables, using every combination I have. I can't swap back the other hard drive, but at the moment there is no hard drive connected at all. I reset the BIOS by removing the battery for 30 minutes with power disconnected. Just to confirm...
I have a little Intel BOXDH57JG system with onboard video. It starts up, give a beep, and the num/caps/scroll buttons remain responsive, but no video. I've tried both a AMD 5450 and a brand-new 6750, no video there, either. I've tried resetting the bios, and tested both the DVI and HDMI onboard...
Another hardcore build. Wishing for newer hex-core CPUs.
The user plans to run 3 30" 2560x1440 monitors. What video card would you recommend? Here is the rest of the system:
Intel Core i7-980 3.33GHz LGA 1366 130W
GIGABYTE GA-X58A-UD3R ATX Intel
CORSAIR Vengeance 24GB (6 x 4GB)
OCZ RevoDrive...
For my more technically literate friends a computer is the way to go, but I am tempted to get a Boxee for the less sophisticated, if only for the remote with keyboard. Is it different video formats that it won't handle? Or different codecs? Resolutions?
IIRC, by default it is a trial of the more advanced version. After you register your free version and type in one of those keys, it makes it the free forever version.
I recommend doing that before creating any VMs that may have features that aren't supported in the free version.
That is good to hear. When I was there a decade ago it seemed that India was still struggling with what to do with itself; having tons of labor, a decent work ethic, and an internal hunger to better itself.
I'm getting closer and closer to changing my mind on that. The surround will have to still be in the ceiling, but the front three and woofer will be built into the cabinetry somehow.
My experience started in the TGI Fridays in Ventura at about 11PM on Friday. All I wanted was a break from the car and some food before driving to LAX. A colossal number of inconveniences later had us arriving at the hotel at 2:30AM.
- Terrible service kept us there for an hour next to a bunch...
I suspect that China will suffer a self-imposed slowdown in the not too distant future. The masses that have been filling the governments coffers are starting to want some of the goods that they have been making.
Next up: India.
Sounds like HDCP or other protection issues. This is why it is a good idea to strip the protections as early and often as possible. I used to use AnyDVD HD, now I use MakeMKV.
My wife actually has real experience with that at the end of the Soviet Union days. It's interesting, the last time I suspected significant inflation I converted much of our savings to assets (bought a house, some cars, etc) and it didn't happen. Now that I don't have 6 figures of cash lying...
Not that I'm a parent, but I was born after some of the Star Wars movies were made, so I have my own experience to go by.
My parent's put it and many other things when I was quite young (I don't remember the first time). It was good fun, and every time I watched it I picked up more and more of...
I think we are a long, long way from that happening. We are indeed in bad shape, but look at the alternatives.
Euro - worse
Yuan - politically driven therefore unstable
BitCoin - "The man" doesn't have control so it will be shot down ;)
I'm honestly surprised. I expected Stereodude to be with me on this one; massive government bloat, huge bureaucratic inefficiencies?
At the same time I expected the more liberal here to be aghast at the notion that some loss of life is a cost of doing business, a price of our success.
While...
I'm so glad I don't have to deal with Outlook anymore. It is such a piece of crap.
*Except when helping my wife, who's company thought it would be a great idea to have Outlook 2007 in a Citrix Metaframe session inside a VPN....even when you are in the office.
Chandelier is up and running beautifully. We've chickened out with the colored diffusers, and I've programmed it to run at 15% brightness with bare LEDs. I'll get some pictures tomorrow when the construction stuff/scaffolding around it is cleaned up.
