Intel's new business model - Chip upgrading?

As long as Intel is straight with everyone, I don't see an ethical problem either. I just think it is a dumb move. If people are willing to hack a game and put it up on the internet, why on earth would you think that there isn't enough value there for people to do this to Intel?

    Affordable graphics cards

I agree that the 5770 is the current cost effective optimum especially at $140. It is my understanding from the rumor mill that AMD will be releasing the next generation of cards in Oct/Nov time frame. The 6770 in Oct. and a 6870 in Nov. I saw some preliminary numbers for the 6870 claiming...

    Affordable graphics cards

Sudden large price drops are a more reliable indicator of the next generation of video cards coming out shortly than even the rumor mill. No manufacturer, distributor or, very large retailer wants to be stuck with an inventory of cards that can no longer compete with the new generation and...

What's the verdict on Windows 7?

Ethernet does not like multiple routes to the same computer/network. It create routing loops (and Ethernet does not like loops) which is why there is a spanning-tree protocol (to be used when path redundancy is required) which turns off duplicate ports until the preferred port has failed. I...

Seems to me that all this is just a prototype used to confirm their research. As such, it is no more likely to produce a FF sensor at 180MP than their previous 50MP prototype sensor created a commercial FF sensor at 75MP. In the long run, the research will produce improved commercial sensors...

    Real innovation

Just imagining it on the interstate. Where do the Semi's go in that they are taller than 2m? I wonder if it is really that much better...

SSDs - State of the Product?

Raid 0 does not affect access time at all, only data transfer rates. The transfer rates increase because the data gets transfered in parallel.
  23. B

SSDs - State of the Product?

With an SSD, the data transfer proportion of the speed equation is very much larger than with a HD so it is much easier to get a speed increase using raid. Lets look at 64k blocks transfering at 100MB/s so a transfer takes .64ms With an SSD the seek speed will be .1ms so a single drive file...

I access the refrigerator the most, so it must be the most convenient. That means it should to be at eye-level (i.e. on the top). Lower Power

180W-200W is quite normal for a desktop machine without a high-performance video card. Since the backup machine is used intermittantly, power it off, except when you need it. You may find it worthwhile to set it up to automatically power up and down on a schedule. There's nothing wrong with...

I don't see anything wrong with the Dir-655 even though now there are more recent models available that now cost more with a some improved feature sets like adding dual-banding, or VPN. As a general purpose router the Dir-655 is still an excellent choice, if you can get it for a reasonable price.

I have to admit, as little as I like it, that I agree, AMD motherboards tend to die much earlier than Intel. I suspect it has to do with the market choice that AMD choose of being the budget master. The result is that AMD motherboards tend to die earlier because they are made cheaper to...
