    iPhone syndrome

I installed "TaskManager" last night, it's quite a nice application. Now I'm looking for an application that will allow me more fine-grained control on power settings. For example, I'd like the screen to stay on for more than 1 minute when connected to power, but to turn off after a minute when...

I've been turning off WiFi when not using it, I haven't ever enabled bluetooth. I'm only using GMail and it doesn't have a setting to change how often it checks for messages. Will the extended capacity battery stick out the back?

Here are some of my random thoughts on the Evo so far. 1. The screen is great. The pixel density is high enough that they are almost impossible to see individually. 2. The browser is pretty decent. It renders almost every page I've been to perfectly. I wish there was an easier way to switch...

I got the phone after waiting about an hour and a half. It took a little while to start working. But, it works now and I even have 4G service in my office.

Is it really necessary to use 5 question marks and all caps in the thread title? It really makes your posts look like SPAM.

I have used this Fedora Guide in the past. It's for Fedora 11, but not all that much has changed between F11 and F13. The Fedora releases are every 6 months. You should have no problem installing F13 in VMWare, what settings are you using when you create the virtual? I also usually start with...

Why I don't use Linux, or haven't....All I wanted to do was install Java on Firefox..

No, because I set the initial disk size large enough to accommodate the install I'm doing. The appliances I have used in the past have been flaky. I prefer to do the install myself. I normally drop LVM during installation and use straight ext4 partitions.

If you are installing Java by downloading something from a website you're doing it wrong. You can install most software you need through yum. For Fedora search for OpenJDK.

    Ubuntu 10.04 issues

I usually have three partitions on my boot drive. boot, swap, and everything else. Resizing partitions is too big of a pain. I just don't see the upside, unless you want to move these partitions to other drives. But, my boot drive is a X-25M, so I don't think this would really help performance.

They are using EEPROM, which is not really the same kind of memory used in SSDs. This test would be a lot more useful if they used MLC Nand.

    Foxconn Kills

Suicide rate in the PRC is 13.9 / 100,000 / year (in 1999). This Foxconn factory has 420,000 employees, so I'm guessing the rate for Foxconn employees is below the national average. I don't know the time range of these suicides, so I can't calculate this exactly.

Small Color Laser with Good Linux support

I got it to work using my favorite method: trial and error. That's a nice feature, I wasn't expecting it to have that. It will also scan to a USB drive, which is also useful. The web interface is very nice to have as well. I'd say I'm pretty happy with it so far.

Is it paranoia to consider using a VM OS, and browser, all the time, for surfing?

This might provide security against malware, but it won't provide any security against social engineering attacks. Are you planning on wiping your vm every time you use it and starting fresh? You could just use vmware or virtual box to boot a linux live image, this way there is nothing to write...
