This thread was looking lonely at the bottom of the pile so the US Government is apparently ditching BB in favor of ithings and green robots.

    question Which Tablets

There's really very little difference between a Nook Color (800MHz single core) and a Galaxy Tab 7.7 (1.4GHz dual core) for about 85% of stuff you can be doing on a tablet. It matters if your habits include a lot of multitasking or decoding HD video, not so much if you just browse and watch...

    question Which Tablets

No. The Xoom, Galaxy Tab, Thinkpad Tablet, Asus Transformer and Toshiba Thrive all have some legitimate claim based on a tiny number of characteristics that distinguish them. The Samsung tablets are ligher and have nicer displays but crappy storage options. The Asus has the battery in the...

Forum upgrade - question about CMS and blog features

I don't know if it's necessary or not. I suspect that we would all continue to use the forum as a forum regardless. When we had the news site, I still chose to land on the forum page and go look and/or comment on news as something secondary to the forum. I guess it might be nice to have posts...

    Noise-Reduction Headphones...experiences?

I have a page open on one of my PCs at home that basically says there's zero difference between any headphones that cost less than $100. Which is pretty much what we all think about computers that come from retail outlets, so I suspect there's some truth to it.

    Companies that have burnt...

I refuse to believe that anyone who can work a web browser can't figure out ways to listen to this person's music without paying for it. Even my mom knows she can wander over to Youtube and find somebody's video playlist if she really wants to.

    question Which Tablets

I suspect that's quite unlikely. Most Android systems are built from off the shelf hardware, and panel manufacturers largely think in 16x9 these days. Given the choice between 1280x1024 (290,000 pixels more than 1280x800) and 1600x900 (416,000 more pixels), I think I'd still go with the raw...

    question Which Tablets

Technically, the ipad is a 10" tablet. It doesn't seem like it's 10", because the current display is missing 230,000 pixels that other larger-than-7" tablets have, and because it uses a 4x3 aspect ratio rather than 16x9. I don't have any problem with the extra vertical pixels, but the overall...

    TV programs you like?

Portlandia is funny in a sort of low key way. Which I suspect is precisely the point. It's pretty amusing that the whole town seems to be in on the joke. The sitting mayor of Portland makes appearances on the show, for example.

PC Gaming = World of Suck

I've been recommending Radeon *770 cards for mainstream gaming for years. It's nice that they're consistent enough in their naming that the capabilities continue to match up to that. Your customer should be fully aware that his system precludes high-end gaming. Get him the card he can get and...

    question Which Tablets

Apparently the iPad3 will sport a 2048x1536 display, enough pixels to handle 1080p video with room to spare and a reasonable resolution for PDF and web page viewing That will at least be some justification for being so goddamned porky.

    LSI RAID ????

It looked to me like LSI firmware was pretty well understood by third parties. The bigger issue is that you'd be putting your hardware in a configuration that isn't supported by Intel or LSI, so there is some risk involved with making those changes.

    Any Sharepoint users?

Ah. OK. So if I'm accessing Sharepoint on SBS2003 via a Server 2008 machine, that's a reasonable test of functionality? Because that works fine for me. I don't have any actual Terminal Server licenses, but I can still RDP.

PC Gaming = World of Suck

Youtube has a video of 1080p gameplay. I looks acceptable to me. The 6750 is just a touch slower than the Radeon 6770, and those are generally pretty capable for midrange hardware.

Nah. Gay people are people. They just like something you're not interested in, in a way that impacts your life not even a tiny little bit. Likewise with Glee fans. Among other things, Jane Lynch was the boss character in "40 Year Old Virgin."

Big screen phones? Anyone have a HTC Sensation?

That phone is basically an Evo 3D. It has a different camera from the Evo 4G (the phone that timwhit, Will Rickards and I all have), slightly better screen resolution and two cores rather than one. I don't have much problem with the on screen keyboard on my phone. On the Evo 4G, the microSD...

NitroPDF is really nice. It has a nicer UI than Foxit and doesn't install crap. One of my clients has a site license for it.
