    Secure USB

This is the bit I had read. It doesn't mention that one specifically.

    Secure USB

I don't know about that one, but there was an article featured on Slashdot a while back that explained that many of those use insecure implementations of secure protocols. I don't know enough about the internals of security, but if I were looking for a secure way to carry around files, I would...

SSDs - State of the Product?

All the Vertex drives are fine. I have a LOT of them, and I've never had a failure. Some running in servers, in laptops, and in brutal industrial environments. All fine.

    Swapping Laptops

I agree with the sentiment, but in my experience it doesn't play out that way in XP. 7 does a great job of it.

SSDs - State of the Product?

OCZ Vertex work great straight out of the box in XP without any tweaking at all. Disabling the defrag service will help with drive lifetime.

Well, that drive certainly is some crap. The CPU (1.2Ghz) isn't exactly a screamer, either. Amazing that those specs would be combined with 4GB of RAM...

    HDD SMART temps reliable?

I generally recall them being accurate, but keep in mind that it is just a single point on the controller board that is being measured. Is there a piece of tape on the sensor? I typically trust the feel of the drives more than the sensor readout anyway. Worst-case, just break out an IR thermometer.

    NVIDIA 3D GLASSES????

No idea. I haven't tested them, and it's a new enough feature that I don't think there is standard language for it.

    NVIDIA 3D GLASSES????

That depends quite a bit on the equipment and setup you are using. My last visit to a 3D movie was Avatar at the local cinema. They had the stupid blue/red glasses and something was out of sync. I had a headache within 30 minutes. The technology I would be interested is "active" shutter...

    NVIDIA 3D GLASSES????

I'm holding out until a 3D 1080P projector is available for under $2500. Until then my InFocus 1080P will have to do.

    NVIDIA 3D GLASSES????

I stand corrected. I still consider it pretty misleading to call them 120hz if they can't accept 120FPS from the source.
  27. ddrueding

    Something Random

That is a heck of a scam; buy some 920s, swap out the real part for a fake, return it for a refund. Newegg re-stocks it and sells it again without ever looking.
  28. ddrueding

    NVIDIA 3D GLASSES????

There are quite a few monitors out there that say 120Hz, but don't receive 120FPS. Instead they receive 60FPS and flash the same image twice in a row. All the displays that advertise 240Hz are 120s that do this (stupid) thing.

SSDs - State of the Product?

Most laptops (and netbooks) use normal 2.5" SATA drives, and work with regular SSDs. In some laptops, someone decided that 1.8" drives would be a good idea, and that requires a smaller form factor for the connectors (the normal ones wouldn't fit).

    Home ESXi

Thanks for the vLan stuff. vMotion would be neat, but if I constantly have to deal with the complexity and performance drop attached to iSCSI, it just isn't worth it. I've already migrated everyone from standard servers to virtual machines, and then consolidated virtual machines without anyone...

    Home ESXi

:p I was planning on learning about iSCSI doing something similar, but it won't apply to the environments I like to work in. I do need to learn about vLANs, and I have quite a few 3Com managed switches to play with (some 48-port, some 24, all GbE), but I haven't gotten to it yet.

ASUS Unveils Exclusive Technology to Unlock Latent AMD CPU Cores
