Restoring x64 WS2008 from image backup

Crazy. I haven't used WS2008 yet. I'm not feeling the need to change from 2003 (I still have a pair of 2000 servers around here).

    Kingston Reselling Intel SSDs?

I meant standard for the machines I build. They are already in 50% of them. The X25-M and a mid-range Core2Duo is snappier for office apps and web stuff than a Velociraptor and a Q9650.

Thanks for the heads-up. These will be standard issue soon.

    The Last Case

I have had a few that mounted the motherboard upside down. The main advantage was graphics card cooling; the GPU was finally on the top of the card, with plenty of space above it. I built a duct front-to-back that handled the CPU as it's own unit. It worked quite well.

    Restoring System

Latest DPP (3.5.something) running on i7@3.91Ghz. Source images are on X25-E, destination is X25-M. As you can see, it never maxes any of the CPUs, which means the bottleneck is elsewhere. Something tells me the HDDs aren't the limitation either. If I were looking to say a program is poorly...

    Kingston Reselling Intel SSDs?

That looks to be my issue, udaman. Excellent research. So it looks like Intel is the only one at the moment, but that better things are coming quickly? Perhaps I'll just run a pair of VelociRaptors until some fast ~300GB SSDs are available. My plan was to purchase by next Friday, but I can put...

I share your dissapointment with the major photo apps lack of multithreading capabilities. Fortunatly, every time I've increased the number of cores, I've also increased the clock speed of those cores. CS4 does do better in this regard; I've started using it over PTGui and Photomatix because it...

    Kingston Reselling Intel SSDs?

No, the performance of the Intel SSDs is fine, I just need more capacity. I'm considering a pair of the 80s, or a 160. Just wondering if anyone else has cracked the hesitation issue yet.

That is what it looks like to me. Thoughts? Has anyone found an SSD out there that performs like the Intel X25-? yet? I can't find the 160GB version for sale.

You're just being a smartass now. I meant the 10,000-100,000 (who knows?) that we've killed in Iraq that had no way of hurting Americans until we sent American troops within range of their weapons (And weren't pissed enough to attack us until we invaded their country). How stupid was that?

Point them out and I will pull the trigger myself. But targeting those that aren't a credible threat (people with rocks and light weapons on the other side of the world) is just dicking around. Further, I don't believe for a minute that taking off my shoes, being limited to small bottles of...

Eneloop Alternatives (or Cracking The Battery Lingo Codewords)

Just ordered an MH-C9000, some lesser chargers, and an army of eneloops (AAA, AA, and the larger size adapters). It would be great to get the company off disposables, even just for the wireless mice and keyboards would be a significant environmental gain.

You also have to be pretty damn good to make a home printer outperform what you get from a shop. I've looked into a color managed workflow (calibrated and cooperating monitor/software/printer), and it is darn tricky/expensive. On a different note, I failed to support my tripod adequately for...

This last bit is really important. I remember when the only people in the business were geeks. Now I know a number of people who do IT "for the money". When did that start? When did we start making that much money? When did any decent geek job include 9-5 and a good paycheck?

1 Fileserver is just going to be easier to maintain and backup. Performance really isn't an issue, as what they have now sucks so badly. Consolidating file servers

The plan would be to take the old machines offline permanantly, redirecting their name (via DNS), their IP (by having multiple IPs on the new server) and the share names (hopefully there are no duplicates) onto a single machine. By pulling the old ones off the network, I would hope to prevent...

Most of the servers are within the main campus; all connected by gigabit fiber. If there are any servers at the remote offices, I would want to move them here anyway; the remote sites are too dirty/insecure to actually be holding data. And the point to point T1s can handle the load without...
