PC Gaming = World of Suck

Did anyone try Rage? I'm not going to play it. I understand it has retarded DRM. But it's an id title and probably represents the height of graphics stuff for the next few years so I feel obligated to be at least interested.

When I was messing with it at first, I was happy to just have a flat grouping of files, but with almost 19,000 video files it's not going to fly like that. I do see that music works in a somewhat more acceptable way. Some of my nicer appliances can browse SMB networks natively, but none of...

PC Gaming = World of Suck

It's fun just to try. Honestly, most MMOs are fun to try. The hard part is finding one that stays engaging for any length of time. I was a beta tester for Everquest and I've played Dungeons and Dragons Online, Everquest 2, Guild Wars and Lord of the Rings Online. I gave a long, hard look at...

PC Gaming = World of Suck

Well, they added an "End Game" of endless new tiers of special abilities that homogenize characters and reward people for running the same "raid" content over and over, for the people who didn't do enough of that in every other MMO. The raids are certainly pretty damned cool the first couple...

Oh, the folder structure if there. \TV Shows\Show Name\Season#\files \Movies\Genre\Series\files etc. Mezzmo just doesn't seem to present it through DLNA. My choices for browsing are "All Files", "File Type", "Recently Added", "Year" and "Last 50 Played."

Perhaps my customer's issue was having to enable Push then. As I recall, the way push stuff works without Activesync is kind of a hack in the first place. Something about invisible SMSes or the like.

    Flash 11 is out

I have an OpenSuse desktop at home. Flash has never been very good on Linux. I don't think that's Linux's fault. I have to admit that I'm not entirely on top of software updates on my home machines. I dislike closing Firefox so I'm lazy about keeping some things up to date.

And so, a little over two days after I started, Mezzmo finally presents the full list of stuff on my little WHS via DLNA... Which means dozens and dozens of files that are named "S1E01 - something" without any organizing folder structure. I must be doing something wrong with setting up the...

    Evil Empire

As stale as things are in the world of desktops and notebooks, it's interesting to note that while there's plenty of news in the mobile sector, it's almost all due to litigation rather than legitimate innovation. Samsung and Apple are feuding. Microsoft is bullying handset and tablet makers...

Building my own desk - looking to see if there is a software solution

One of the reasons I'm probably not a very handy person is that my father has the kind of brain where he can just go grab pieces of wood, cut them and assemble a finished product without even a hint that there were any plans or diagrams. We built my loft (a desk under a bunkbed with shelving...

I've worked with the 7" Galaxy quite a bit. Specs-wise, it's basically just like my phone but with a larger screen. I have not used the 10" version. I don't imagine it's much different.

    Athlon II 170u? Webcam?

Since it's an AMD, it should have decent onboard video processing and I'd imagine that 720p will be fine. The Athlon 170u is indeed an ultra low power chip that's meant to be used in the same sorts of applications as the Atom. Unfortunately, that's not going to stop companies like Compaq and...

New motherboard supports 288GB of RAM

I would think that such things would be better off in a cluster configuration where each x CPU cores would have its own access to a pool of RAM. Even with 2TB of RAM, there's only so much bandwidth available to access memory, and anything that's going to work well in parallel across 80 cores is...

New motherboard supports 288GB of RAM

Exchange murders RAM and disk I/O. It's not really that rough on CPUs. But 80 CPU cores and 2TB RAM seems to me like it would be pushing into mainframe territory. I have no idea what mainstream application that would have besides hosting virtual machines. And it would probably be cheaper and...

    1. 1280x1024 is 5x4 2. The thing you want to find are the high end model Dell Ultrasharp displays that were made circa 2006. They sold zillions of them. I have a classroom that has them, and they look infinitely better than the crappy HannsG displays I've been buying lately.

Yeah. Your instructor wants to see diagrams. As an IT certification instructor, I'd like to make it clear that we are some lazy mofos. Which is why your guy is telling you to use Cisco's thing that he's familiar with rather than something you're legally able to use, too.
