I kinda noticed, thank you. Unfortunately, I cannot go any faster. You weren't able to overtake me with your Storageforum_net profile, but now it seems you will. Unless you lower your pace somehow, I doubt I'll be able to reach you again later on as I don't plan to add any other boxes for the...

    Monitor strangeness

Without any proof, I tend to believe that the average LCD lifespan would be shorter than the one of the average CRT. That's because of the backlights used in LCD, I think one of the backlights is far more likely to burn after 3 years (making the screen totally unusable) than the cathodic ray...

Intel i845G reported to be very fast according to Dumb Tom.

I never wrote the article was good or anything close to, but the i845G is still clearly ahead of others DDR chipsets. I didn't read much of the text, as I was sure to find parts like the one you quoted. Besides, the simple fact of using PC Mark as a benchmark already put enough discredit on...

I currently only have my computer's speakers as audio system, but since I don't listen much music, it's quite enough. It's the Altec Lansing ACS-56. It was good for the price back when I got it.

Intel i845G reported to be very fast according to Dumb Tom.

In fact, it's according to Frank Völkel. In this recent article, he reported impressive results for a DDR P4 chipset when he compared the soon-to-be-released i845G against the SiS 645DX. Anyone else has heard about similar hype regarding the i845G? Or is it just Tom smoking too much (again)...

Since we are a public forum, I agree that posting a link to download illegal softwares copies is something that shouldn't be done. However, James obviously did post that link to help some of us and although the way wasn't appropriate, the intention was good. I hope he won't be pissed. BTW...

It all depends on the method used. I would be very surprise if you could make the difference between Lame-encoded mp3 at 256Kbps (even 192Kbps is above most people ear sensibility) and original .wav. Experts hardly can't. If you use Frauwhatever (I alway forget the name), that's another thing...

    Asus A7S333, what's the problem?

Hi, Many web sites reported late last week that the Asus A7S333 started to appear on shelves in Japan and they were all excited about it. I wonder what's the waiting for, this motherboard has been available here for more than a week, several days before the availability in Japan announcement...

This should be seek time I think. I'm one of those who believe that the WD800AB is a 6000rpm drive instead of a 5400rpm. Impressive results and positive comments about this drive have been posted elsewhere than on SR so I believe the WD800AB is just as fast as Eugene wrote it is.

    USB2.0 first experience

What we would need is an external enclosure that features both USB 2.0 and Firewire ports, as well as two controllers (one for each standards). Nonetheless, from Pradeep's ATTO graph, it seems obvious that an external Firewire drive would be fast enough to be usable for most people.

Well, we aren't quite up to the level of these teams yet. If we compare our production to the one of mega-units teams, we would be the weakest of them all. Although we are close to the beat of team Picard and team Genome Research Group (both at ~9300 units/week), our 6300 units/week is just...

You are suppose to be topped at something like 37% taxation, whatever's your salary in the States. Here it is ~47% IIRC. How can you pay 50% taxes in the States? Even Bill (Gates, not Green) doesn't pay 50% taxes on the revenue he declares.

    SuSE 8.0

And I wouldn't expect Suse 8.0 to be functional enough to make it a default OS for my boxes. It still isn't as easy to learn (relatively I mean) as Winblows. The press release mentioned that it has 1200 drivers included with it, not bad. But the problem is with new peripherals. Their drivers...
