    Pope Hangs It Up?

The problem with that reasoning is that we, just like any other animal on this planet, only exists to reproduce. Our children are smarter than us and their children will be even more intelligent. The upside with living for 1000 years is that we'd have pretty much experience, but we would...

    Pope Hangs It Up?

Most religions should be updated. It's been a while since the Bible and Quran was written and the world has changed a bit in the last 1500-2000 years. I don't think the catholic church is the only place where you find pedophiles, you'll probably find them in situations where they train or work...

    Pope Hangs It Up?

Perhaps the catholic church should just let their priests get married? That way they could do their wives instead of the altar boys or the females in the parish.

    Cycling

It's no problem with the right clothes, the shoes are supposed to work between +5 and -35C, the rest is just a question of adding layers.
  13. F

    Cycling

Yes, but it's not any worse than people who does cross country skiing in that temperature. Besides, -15C here doesn't feel as cold as -15 feels by the coast. The biggest problem is that I don't have a proper winter lube so the chain and gears gets stuck when it gets down to about -20. But that...

    Cycling

It's -15C (5F) here today, a bit chilly but I only have a 10-15 minute commute so it's OK. But I wouldn't go on a 32 mile ride, at least not without warmer clothes and ski goggles.

    Even better audio from a laptop v. Audio-gd NFB-15.1 + Emotiva Pro Airmotiv 4

I hope they have been successful in their design of the Stealth 8's, getting 2 way speakers with 8" woofers to actually sound good isn't easy.

    Windows 8

One thing that's pretty useless is the Store. I can sort the apps in different ways, but not Alphabetical and I can't write and search like in the start screen... I'm sure Steve Ballmer did this for my own good, but I don't appreciate his kindness very much at the moment.

    Media Center (?) Advice

If your friend decides to go with XBMC and the Synology NAS (or any existing NAS) two out of three hardware components needed to run DLNA are already in place. The 12" Thinkpad would make an excellent control point by the way, as long as your friend has WiFi at home. He can just tie the Thinkpad...

    Media Center (?) Advice

Great advice, I have approximately the same solution at home, minus RAID. DLNA makes it possible to add/remove media servers, control points and renderers in a blink of an eye. Let's say I have a friend who visits that like to play some music on the phone, I just let him/her connect to the...

    Media Center (?) Advice

WDTV doesn't seem to have very good sound. (http://www.whathifi.com/review/western-digital-wdtv) I would almost recommend a separate music streamer and another for video content, but it depends on how picky he is.

    Windows 8

My mother has been using Win 8 for a week or so now. She thinks it's OK, the full screen start menu and the lost start button doesn't bother her, and I told her to press Alt+F4 when she wants to shut down. I also removed all Metro apps from the start screen, so she's probably not even aware of...

    Even better audio from a laptop v. Audio-gd NFB-15.1 + Emotiva Pro Airmotiv 4

I don't care very much about what it says on the sticker, I use my ears. Not that it feels very relevant to this thread about computer speakers. I think ddrueding asked for a sub that match his Airmotiv 4's? And now we've come to the conclusion that no reasonable priced sub is able to do that...

But do you really believe it's a bad thing if it restricts the choices to really good subwoofers? We have different philosophies about how to reach Audiophile Nirvana. I don't think you can convert me and I'm not going to convert you either. :)

    Even better audio from a laptop v. Audio-gd NFB-15.1 + Emotiva Pro Airmotiv 4

Or get a good digital music streamer that receives the signal over TCP/IP and converts it to music only once. It won't work very good for computer games, but it's great for music.

    Even better audio from a laptop v. Audio-gd NFB-15.1 + Emotiva Pro Airmotiv 4

I kind of agree with Stereodude about the next steps, but it's only logical if you've maximized the earlier steps. Otherwise you're just wasting money. Spend a bit more money on a better sub with a line out. Or - get an even better one with a high pass line out, so you can mix and match the...

Yes. I use Win 8 in the same way as Mercutio (not very much Metro), I went straight from 2003 to the consumer preview and it took me about 4 hours to feel comfortable, so most of you will probably only need <=2 hours.

I don't know, I haven't gone much faster than 25-28 mph. It adds a little bit of drag you know. ;) Or maybe it's because I only have 48-11 on the bike? But it's pretty safe, the aluminium frame and handle bars acts as a roll cage if things should go wrong. I actually tipped it over for the...
