Are you sure it won't post? My first server for the coffin would only initialize video cards in the first PCIex16 slot (even if I had a PCI card in it no video would come out). However, in a fully headless config (no video card at all) the RAID card would work fine. Just had to do all work remotely.

It has been out for a whole bunch of years, and enterprise-grade drives are being released by bit names. These things don't happen to risky tech. And as Merc said, the rewards are staggering. Really horse and buggy vs. car stuff.

In my experience the fundamental problem with all of them is that they are separate devices. It doesn't forward the sound from your soundcard, it has another soundcard. Same with video and NIC. This can make settings complicated to get right to start.

I have a situation where three different people with three different makes and models of laptops (2 XP, 1 7) will be sharing a desk. I have limited experience with "universal laptop docks" that are basically USB hubs with integrated sound, NIC, and video. Anyone have a favorite? Tips? Other...

I don't know how to reference the volume level. The Windows volume level is at 20% and the knob on the speakers is turned up ~15 degrees from off; at about the 8:30 position. Turning it to 40% and the 9-o'clock makes all the difference.

Did you use the little rubber feet they shipped with?

I currently have both at 0. From what I can see it looks like the LF goes to -2 or -4 only. I suppose I could set the HF to -2? I've upped the volume a bit, and since there is no sub, my neighbors still can't hear it. The speakers sound fantastic once the volume is a little higher.

With 4 drives, if you want to focus on capacity with some redundancy RAID-5 is the way to go (3TB usable). If you want more speed and still redundancy you can go RAID-10 (2TB usable) If you just want speed you can go RAID-0 (4TB usable, if any drive dies you lose all your data)

Please continue to post, just understand that Merc and I consider the reviews on Newegg and the like completely without value. It isn't that they are occasionally right, or contain some kernel of truth, they are simply useless. I'm willing to bet that the bad pins referred to were user error...

If reliability is high on your list, I would put the Intel drives on top. For price reasons the 330, 320, and 520 in that order. Then the Samsung, then the Corsair, then the Kingston.

Merc got it in one. This is California; our building codes mostly prevent that kind of damage. And quakes happen often enough that things that aren't stable don't accumulate. Of course, I suspect a hurricane would mess us up pretty bad.
