Still loving it. Does pretty much everything I want a phone to do. Even when I think of new things I want my phone to do, there is usually a free app for that.

Are you sure it won't post? My first server for the coffin would only initialize video cards in the first PCIex16 slot (even if I had a PCI card in it no video would come out). However, in a fully headless config (no video card at all) the RAID card would work fine. Just had to do all work remotely.

SSDs - State of the Product?

It has been out for a whole bunch of years, and enterprise-grade drives are being released by bit names. These things don't happen to risky tech. And as Merc said, the rewards are staggering. Really horse and buggy vs. car stuff.

    Best "universal laptop dock"?

In my experience the fundamental problem with all of them is that they are separate devices. It doesn't forward the sound from your soundcard, it has another soundcard. Same with video and NIC. This can make settings complicated to get right to start.

    Best "universal laptop dock"?

I have a situation where three different people with three different makes and models of laptops (2 XP, 1 7) will be sharing a desk. I have limited experience with "universal laptop docks" that are basically USB hubs with integrated sound, NIC, and video. Anyone have a favorite? Tips? Other...

I think that is the same one I've been buying. Merc has my spare at the moment, so I can't check.

    Even better audio from a laptop v. Audio-gd NFB-15.1 + Emotiva Pro Airmotiv 4

I was thinking about it, my biggest concern would be if they required an even louder listening volume before sounding good.

    RIP

I am sorry to hear that, but I suppose there are many silver linings there. The kids are old enough to be able to survive on their own and he didn't take anyone else with him. I knew quite a few people like that, but they were all dead or smarter by the time they were 30-35.

    Even better audio from a laptop v. Audio-gd NFB-15.1 + Emotiva Pro Airmotiv 4

Everyone finally went home and I got to crank it. I now understand why people were looking for a subwoofer; even on the deepest of dubstep mixes it never hits bottom. Each lower note is distinctly...lower. Songs like "Cupid & Orlando" by Aromabar sound fantastic; it sounds like the...

    Even better audio from a laptop v. Audio-gd NFB-15.1 + Emotiva Pro Airmotiv 4

I don't know how to reference the volume level. The Windows volume level is at 20% and the knob on the speakers is turned up ~15 degrees from off; at about the 8:30 position. Turning it to 40% and the 9-o'clock makes all the difference.

    Even better audio from a laptop v. Audio-gd NFB-15.1 + Emotiva Pro Airmotiv 4

I currently have both at 0. From what I can see it looks like the LF goes to -2 or -4 only. I suppose I could set the HF to -2? I've upped the volume a bit, and since there is no sub, my neighbors still can't hear it. The speakers sound fantastic once the volume is a little higher.

Got the Emotiva Airmotiv-4s this morning. Hooked them up to a Creative USB Sound Blaster HD I had kicking around and put them on some Auralex monitor stands that elevate them a bit and air them more towards my head. I don't know if near field are always this directionally sensitive, but it...

This is the thread for the discussion of interesting apps.

I'm looking for an app that will post my phone's location and path every minute or so on a Google maps page, primarily so my wife will know where I am when I go out for solo rides alone. With 4 drives, if you want to focus on capacity with some redundancy RAID-5 is the way to go (3TB usable). If you want more speed and still redundancy you can go RAID-10 (2TB usable) If you just want speed you can go RAID-0 (4TB usable, if any drive dies you lose all your data)

SSDs - State of the Product?

If reliability is high on your list, I would put the Intel drives on top. For price reasons the 330, 320, and 520 in that order. Then the Samsung, then the Corsair, then the Kingston.

Merc got it in one. This is California; our building codes mostly prevent that kind of damage. And quakes happen often enough that things that aren't stable don't accumulate. Of course, I suspect a hurricane would mess us up pretty bad.

    question OCZ Crapping Out

Meh, previous management took too short-term a view and dug themselves a hole. Not the end of the world, or even the company. The stock analyst the article talked to still has OCZ as a "hold" and not a "sell", meaning he thinks they took a bigger hit than they deserve.
