Yup, the prices have really dropped. But not all distributors are passing on the savings yet. Happily, one of mine is passing on the savings, and I to my customers. (Although, not the $83.00 price.)
Newegg would be on board since they buy from the same distributors I do (but at lower prices due to volume). Ingram Micro seems to be more forthcoming with the savings versus ASI.
Speaking from a purely price/performance ratio, at the moment you're still better off with Intel. The E6400 is ~98% of the speed (it's in a statistical dead heat with the E6600, performance-wise) and 70% of the price. Or thereabouts.
