Seagate (Samsung) launch world first 2TB 2.5in HDD

Here are the interesting facts about the drive :

The new HDD has been manufactured in China under its Samsung hard disk drive (HDD) division. It is spinning at 5400rpm and has the highest platter density of any 2.5-in form factor drive to date. Each platter has 667GB of capacity.

According to Samsung, the M9T boasts a data transfer rate of 169MB/s with an average latency of 5.6 microseconds. It uses 2.3 Watts of power during read/write operations and 0.7 Watts while idle.

Of course, it uses a standard SATA 6G interface. A 1.5TB model will be available too.

The seek times are average and I'm not sure if the 169MB/sec. is the same as STR. The latency is obviously a typo unless it is a 5.4 million RPM drive.

Perhaps the 2TB Samsung P3 is a 15 mm drive since the height is listed at up to 17.5 mm. How thick is your unit?

My 2 TB external drive is 15mm high, so the drive must be less than that. Hmmmmmmm.

I finally purchased the Seagate 2TB slim USB drive and removed the M9T drive inside. It seems to work normally as an internal hard drive.
