Nice pictures. Yesterday was brutal for me; I went for a hike in the morning with the dog at Garland Ranch regional park (about 30 minutes from my home), and the temps got too high for my taste (mid-70s). After climbing the hill I was ready to pass out. After recovering from that, we went to the theater then dancing. I just woke up at noon, and my GF is out hiking AGAIN! She's 14 years older than I am! WTF?!

I'll have some pics of the trip later.

I'm not a photographer, but the area is quite beautiful.

PS - is that image size ok?

I'm very particular about climate. Right now it's perfect; 67F and sunny with a 5mph breese. That would be 20C and 8kmh breese for you other guys...

Actually, I think anything much over the mid-50s is too hot. Winter is my favorite season by a mile. Summers? Well, I suppose it has to be warm some time so we can grow food but I generally hate summers with a purple passion. Heat, humidity, insects, polluted air, ozone alerts, etc. You can always add another layer if it's cold but in the summer you reach a point where you're still hot but can't take anything else off.

A 10% slope is quite steep. If you're not in good shape, I doubt you would have been able to jog that kind of grade. A 5% slope is already taxing. A 10% grade is, well...remember Le Tour de France (cycling competition which Lance Amrstrong won 7 times)? The bad ass slopes they climb are rarely over 9% and they are very steep.
There's a 10% or so slope a few miles from me. It's long enough that I have to slow to 10 or 11 mph in order to not be pooped out when I reach the top. Sadly, the downhill direction isn't enough fun to make up for the climb since the road ends at an intersection at the bottom of the hill. You need to turn either left or right, plus the traffic light is usually red anyway. Picking up too much speed is problematic.

Now on Union Turnpike around 220th Street is a nice long 6% or so slope. This one is way longer than the aforementioned 10% grade so at best I'll make 12 or 13 mph going up. Going the other way, though, makes the climb worth it. There is only one light which is green 95% of the time, plus no driveways or parked cars as potential obstacles. Occasionally I'll actually break 50 mph by the bottom of the hill. Most of the time I get into the 40s. I never had the chance to try that hill with a good, stiff tailwind. Coming back up would be a real pain for sure, but 75 mph the other way would more than make up for it. Oh well...someday.

Garry's Mod is really too much fun. I think I've spent more time in there than actually playing the game. I've never managed anything that complex, but the possibilities are endless (if you have the RAM).

Nice pictures Dave.

I dislike cold intensely. I don't mind too much if it drops to something below zero (32f) overnight, so long as it warms up during the day to something sensible like 15 or 20 - anything under 15 as a daily max isn't a day, it's just a time that elapses in between getting out of bed and going back to sleep again. Desert climates in winter, in other words, are just fine by me.

I don't particularly like heat either, not once it goes over 35 (that's about 95f), but if pressed to it can tolerate moving about and doing things up to about 45 or 47 (115f, roughly). Not pleasant, but you can cope with it if you have to. Provided that is, that it doesn't go on and on and on. A stinking hot day is one thing, but a still-too-hot night to follow knocks me round a bit. It really needs to drop below 30 (86f) or else you just don't get a chance to recover ready for the next day.

But I really, really hate days that never make it over 10 (50f). They just suck. (And I live in Ballart? Go figure.)

A perfect day? Hmmm ... 15 to 25 for me (59 to 77f, call it 60 to 75, close enough). But if it ain't going to be in that perfect range, I'll take 25 overnight and 35 at lunchtime (77-95f) a long, long time before I'll shiver my way through a horrible, miserable 5 to 15 (41 to 59).

Me? Same thing as Tannin, but with a minus before the celcius degrees. I know I can work at -45C outside, but I know I can't do anything above 35C and that I limit my efforts from 28C and up.

It got into the 50s today (~15°C for those who use metric), and I feel hot. I can certainly tolerate low temperatures but above about 70°F I prefer to just stay inside with the A/C on. Maybe I'm one of the few who is hoping the Gulf Stream shuts down so the temperatures in New York fall by 15 or 20 degrees. The summers might actually be tolerable for a change.

Tannin, I feel much the same way, only I'm more particular. Anything below 50F and I hate to go outdoors. Anything above 80F and I'll find a reason to drive someplace cooler.

Perhaps you should consider heading up here for vacation? We just remodeled the kitchen.

I like 50 - 60F by default. Warm enough to comfortably wear a long sleeved shirt without a coat.

I also like it when it's hot enough for girls to wear halter tops and short-shorts. :D

Other temperatures suck.

I work a couple miles from the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. Every so often, in the summer, I'll go someplace on my lunch break and find a bunch of girls running around in bikinis. :D

I work on a university campus. A couple of the guys go swimming at the uni gym at lunch times which is aparently quite picturesque... I should probably go over a couple of days a week... To get in shape you know...

Brokeback Mountain Action Figures (utterly safe for work). They look like slightly modified "Dukes of Hazzard" dolls to me, but I still think it's funny.

While I'm at it, I sincerely hope Brokeback Mountain wins every Hollywood award it got nominated for. I hope they make up new Oscars to give to it. Every time a fundie has a coronary (hopefully a fatal one) over Hollywood being out of touch with "mainstream America", I can feel a tiny bit better about the legalized Homophobia enacted in 2004.

Those of you willing to do vile things involving Bittorrent clients would do well to search on a site like Isohunt.com...
Not that I would ever consider doing vile things like visiting Isohunt.com, but just out of curiosity...is it possible that friendly people from the RIAA keep track of absolutely evil and often poor people trying to take a (free) glimpse at the shows produced by already too rich, multibillion dollars-worth movie corporations? Can someone be sued for downloading a torrent?

Yes, definitely.

At least to the 2nd one.

I thought the RIAA was music, not movies.

I put them all in the same bag. The movie industry must have an equivalent to the RIAA.

It must be rare though, or some members here would have been caught a while ago.

I've always assumed not. There isn't actually any copyrighted material in the torrent itself and since even downloading the program would not constitute a criminal act there is no legal way that your computer can be searched to determine if you ever actually did so (Or at least not without a lengthy legal procedure which would result in a secure errased hard drive being presented for inspection). Hence the "I did download the torrent but then I discovered it would be copyright infringment to download the actual file" argument should be pretty much bullet proof...

This was fun, if a bit juvenile. It doesn't require mouse dexterity.

(Direct large-screen .swf grab, might require the screen to be right-clicked then select "play")

I've made it only to level five. I don't bother trying to memorize the Vikings' blocks so that's probably why.

I only made it to level 4, but I managed a score of 12982...not bad I'd say.

Demonoid.com has a cracked OSXx86 10.4.4 (that's the shipping version) generic install DVD online.

No support for nVidia graphics (go Apple!) or CPUs that don't have SSE2, and AMD users have to apply another patch to make it work, but it's out there.
